Alert! Disney California Adventure Hidden Gem Attraction CLOSING Permanently

Disney has confirmed that a hidden gem attraction will soon be closing at Disney California Adventure. Disney Imagination Campus, which offers workshops across a variety of performing arts and academic subjects for different grade levels, will be moved to a different location at the park.

Disney Imagination Campus is currently located in Walt Disney Imagineering Blue Sky Cellar, but it will be moved to Animation Academy to make space for a new Disney Vacation Club offering.

Keep reading for more details on which attraction will be closing to make room for Disney Imagination Campus, the closing date, and what will replace the Blue Sky Cellar space.

Disney Imagination Campus Moving to New Space

Disney Imagination Campus will be moving from Walt Disney Imagineering Blue Sky Cellar to the Beast's Library in Animation Academy, meaning that the Beast's Library will soon be no longer available to guests.

Disney Imagination Campus is a student field trip and workshop program that takes place at Disneyland. The group previously used the Blue Sky Cellar space across from Cars Land but that space will soon become home to a Disney Vacation Club Welcome Center. This is different from the Disney Vacation Club Lounge that recently opened in Tomorrowland.

The Beast's Library closing will be permanently, but other spaces in Animation Academy will still be available for guests to enjoy. Adjacent spaces may be used by Disney's Imagination Campus as needed, so guests can check the Disneyland app to see which experiences will be available when they visit. That means that the Sorcerer's Workshop space could also be potentially impacted.

Animation Academy Beast's Library Closing Date

After Disney Imagination Campus is relocated from Blue Sky Cellar at Disney California Adventure, the space will be transformed into a Disney Vacation Club Welcome Home Center in 2024, with more details to come in the future.

Beast's Library will no longer be available to guests starting December 11, and Disney Imagination Campus will begin instruction in this space on December 15. As Disney announces more details on the new Disney Vacation Club Welcome Home Center, we will keep you updated. December 10, 2023 will be the final day to experience the Beast Library experience.

We were first notified of the changes through correspondence sent to Cast Members that was shared on Twitter. The closure was then confirmed by Disney.

We will miss this experience, as visiting the Beast's Library to take the Disney character quiz (seen in the picture below) has always been one of our favorite hidden gem experiences. Animation Academy is one of our top quiet places at Disneyland to visit when we need a break from the crowds at the park.

One of my personal favorite experiences as a kid was going to Ursula's Grotto at Animation Academy, where you could do voiceovers for different scenes from movies like The Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and more. To this day, I still think it was one of the best underrated experiences at Disney California Adventure. This experience was closed and replaced with the Frozen meet-and-greet experience where you can see sisters Anna and Elsa.

The Beast's Library is filled with several incredible details, with the most iconic one being the atmosphere shift that happens every few minutes. The room shifts from its normal state to darker lighting, with claw marks appearing on the portrait of the Beast hung above the fireplace and the previously lit fireplace going out.

As you walk into the library, you'll see the walls covered with books and open “books” with chairs where you can sit and take a personality quiz that determines which Disney character you are most like.

Be sure to visit this hidden gem before the permanent Beast's Library closing this December!

  1. God for bid they should have a quiet place for people to have a a place to hang out for a while and not turn it into a profit center for Disney.

  2. Wow, you are taking away such a magical experience.
It’s clear to me profit is high on the agenda.
