The most classic and nostalgic of transportation options at Walt Disney World is the Disney monorail which started running in 1971. The Disney Monorail offers transportation between certain Resort hotels, EPCOT, and Magic Kingdom.
Each monorail train can hold around 120 passengers. The cabins for the monorail are large and offer bench seating. Scooters, wheelchairs, and strollers are able to fit in the cabins. You will share this space with other guests.
There are three separate lines run simultaneously: the Resort Monorail, the EPCOT Monorail, and the Express Monorail.
Disney Resort Monorail Line
The Resort Monorail makes the following stops:
- Magic Kingdom park
- Disney’s Contemporary Resort
- Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
- Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
- Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC)
You cannot get to EPCOT on this monorail line, you will need to take this monorail to the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) to transfer.

EPCOT Monorail Line
This line offers round-trip service between the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) and EPCOT. Guests traveling to EPCOT from another monorail resort hotel will have to transfer to the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) before getting on this line.
Express Monorail Line
The Express Monorail line only goes between the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) and Magic Kingdom. This line is primarily for guests at the TTC heading to Magic Kingdom.
When is Disney Monorail Open?
The Resort Monorail and Express Monorail begin operating 30 minutes prior to when Magic Kingdom park opens and stop one hour after Magic Kingdom park closes.
The EPCOT Monorail begins operating 30 minutes prior to when EPCOT opens and stops 2 hours after EPCOT closes.
You will see longer lines for the Disney Monorail right before park opening and park closing but the good news is that there are multiple monorails running during these peak times.
