Disney Makes Rules Change to Where Disney Gift Cards Are Accepted

Disney Gift Cards are an easy way to allocate vacation spending money, as they can be used for basically anything, from dining to souvenirs to hotel expenses, across all of Walt Disney World in Florida, Disneyland Resort in California, Disney Cruise Line, and Disney Store online. They’re even available for purchase nationally at local stores, which sometimes offer discounts. A change was just made to Disney Gift Card eligibility. This follows another recent Disney Gift Card change that many guests were waiting for.

Disney Gift Cards are no longer accepted at a few select stores at Walt Disney World. We have details on what changed and why. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including sold-out dates for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and how to watch Disney’s livestream of huge theme park announcements.

Disney Gift Card Eligibility Reduced

Guests can use Disney Gift Cards almost anywhere on a Disney vacation. I love how I can purchase them at my local grocery store and how they never expire, so any leftover funds at the end of a trip can roll over to a future vacation.

While Disney Gift Cards are eligible for most Disney World shopping, dining, hotel reservations, and tickets, a few exceptions were just introduced at Disney Springs. Disney Gift Cards are no longer valid at Vera Bradley, Zara, and some other third party retailers at Disney Springs.

These stores are third-party locations not owned by Disney, and their new contracts with Disney reportedly include the Disney Gift Card rule change. Since it was a contract change, we anticipate that more third party stores could also be impacted into the future.

This is a somewhat standard procedure for stores. Think about how you can’t use Starbucks gift cards for Starbucks locations inside Barnes & Noble nationally. This is a similar situation.

The switch does not include all third-party Disney Springs stores. Sephora and Under Armour Brand House, for example, still accept them. WDWNT first reported the news based on conversations with guest relations.

We keep track of limited-time Disney Gift Card discounts at various stores to help you save money, like a savings of $50 on Disney Gift Cards at Sam’s Club earlier this year. Subscribe to our free Mickey Visit newsletter to never miss an update like this.

Disney recently implemented a big change to how guests use Disney Gift Cards for mobile orders of dining and shopping while in the parks. Previously, guests using a Disney Gift Card for mobile transactions had to manually input their card’s long identification number every time they purchased anything.

Now, guests can save their Disney Gift Card directly to the Disney app, and it’s right there for easy access when it’s time to select a payment method. This was a game-changer on my recent trip and was a very welcome change. See more about how to use this new feature.
