Disney Quietly Pausing Iconic Theme Park Character Dining Experience

Disneyland is quietly pausing one of its most iconic character dining experiences. This is also one of our favorite character dining meals at the Disneyland Resort.

Let’s get into the details on this unexpected closure of a top character dining experience and what it might mean for any possible character dining changes. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including an upcoming sale featuring affordable Disney Park items and new menu items revealed for popular dining locations.

Disneyland Pauses Only Theme Park Character Dining Experience

Minnie Mouse

One of our favorite Disneyland character dining experiences is the Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park at the Plaza Inn at Disneyland Park. Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park is the only character dining experience held inside Disneyland Park. The rest of the other character dining options at Disneyland take place at the Disneyland property-owned hotels, which are all located within easy walking distance from Downtown Disney and the parks.

The Plaza Inn is a restaurant that is filled with Disney history. This restaurant interior was designed by Walt Disney’s wife Lillian, and the decor offers beautiful, intricate details. Minnie Mouse is a guaranteed interaction since it’s titled Minnie & Friends. Other commonly seen characters at this experience also include Tigger, Winnie the Pooh, Eeyore, Fairy Godmother, Rafiki, Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Max, the Cinderella Mice, Chip n Dale, and Pluto. This is one of my favorite character dining experiences to take my teen to.

A recent update to the Plaza Inn official Disneyland restaurant page has revealed that the character dining experience will “be temporarily unavailable starting August 10, 2026, and is expected to return in late September.” There are no currently planned refurbishments for the Plaza Inn, and operating hours are posted as normal from August 10 and beyond on the website.

There has not been an official announcement for the reason behind the temporary pause, but the timing here interestingly lines up with preparations for Halloween at Disneyland, which officially begins August 21. However, Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park typically doesn’t change with the seasons aside from Minnie Mouse transitioning to a holiday outfit during the holiday celebrations. In the past, she hasn’t worn Halloween-themed attire.

Goofy's Kitchen Halloween

There are three other Halloween-themed Disneyland character dining opportunities already announced for this year.

This includes Goofy’s Kitchen Celebrates Halloween at the Disneyland Hotel, where Goofy and friends appear in Halloween attire, as well as Clarabelle’s Enchanted Halloween Dinner at Storytellers Cafe, featuring Clarabelle and friends in seasonal outfits. Storytellers Cafe will also offer Mickey’s Autumn Adventures Breakfast Buffet, which features Mickey and friends in fall-inspired attire rather than a traditional Halloween theme.

While the temporary pause for Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park does seem to coincide with preparations for Halloween, there are already three other character experiences offering seasonal themes, making it unlikely for Disneyland to do the same transition for Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park.

Another reason could just be related to general staffing levels, schedules, and other character availability ahead, especially with three seasonal character dining experiences starting up around the same time. Character dining requires a large cast of performers and character attendants, so the reason behind the closure could ultimately be fairly unremarkable. Perhaps Disney is simply adjusting staffing schedules and preparing staff to support the seasonal experiences once they kick off.
