Disneyland Just Opened 4 New Dining Locations This Month

Downtown Disney, the dining and shopping district of Disneyland Resort, has spent the past few years radically transforming its culinary landscape by introducing new dining options and closing others. While several projects are still in progress, a handful of new eateries just opened for business, including a signature Downtown Disney favorite reborn.

Four new dining locations opened this month at Disneyland’s Downtown Disney. We have the full list of restaurants and firsthand coverage from trying them out. Earl of Sandwich

The new permanent building for Earl of Sandwich is finally open at Downtown Disney! This follows years of Earl of Sandwich shuffling around Downtown Disney in multiple temporary homes after the 2018 closure of its original location.

The new spot is located near the Downtown Disney LIVE! Stage on the west end of the district, the side closest to the Disneyland Hotel, not the theme parks.

Like its predecessors, the new Earl of Sandwich is a quick service restaurant, so it operates with walk-ups only, no reservations.

The menu at Earl of Sandwich’s new location features all the familiar favorites that have made this restaurant a Downtown Disney staple.

Holiday Sandwich

We went with a classic, the Holiday Turkey sandwich, which comes with turkey, cornbread stuffing, cranberry sauce, and mayonnaise.

The new Earl of Sandwich location is a two-story building. The first floor houses the traditional Earl of Sandwich restaurant. Upstairs hosts a new concept from the Earl of Sandwich owners, Gordon Ramsay at The Carnaby, a table service restaurant in the style of a British pub.

This eatery is named after Carnaby Street in London, and includes several of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay’s signature dishes, including beef Wellington. Reservations are recommended and can be made through the restaurant’s website.

We visited Gordon Ramsay at The Carnaby on its fourth day open for business. Here’s a photo of our fish and chips plate, which was among several dishes we tried. Big Boi Lumpia Co.

Big Boi Lumpia Co. is a new snack cart in Downtown Disney serving Filipino lumpia, a type of spring roll. The cart is the first expansion location of Big Boi’s main restaurant in Los Angeles.

You can find Big Boi Lumpia Co. near the Disneyland Monorail station and The LEGO Store.

The menu for Downtown Disney’s Big Boi Lumpia Co. features savory and sweet options. The savory rolls are pork, chicken, and the plant-based Impossible fake meat. Sweet menu items include Ube, which is a Filipino purple yam, and peach mango.

A sign on the cart says Big Boi is famous for its pork lumpia. Chef Barb Batiste has been making Filipino food with her family since she was a kid.

The lumpia comes in a paper box, with the sauce in a separate plastic cup, so you can mix it in with all the rolls or dip them individually, your pick.

We really enjoyed the lumpia here and think it’s a great, quick meal or shareable snack option. The pork lumpia was flavorful and perfectly crispy.

Happy Ice

Happy Ice is a new dessert cart in Downtown Disney, located just outside of Parkside Market on the west side of the district. We’ve seen long lines for this location so far since its opening.

The cart serves Philadelphia-style Italian ice made with natural ingredients. Happy Ice’s Downtown Disney cart follows the chain’s other locations in Hollywood and Northridge.

Happy Ice serves traditional flavors like mango, cherry, and blue raspberry, as well as creative combos, such as “Time Machine” (cherry, mango, and pineapple) and “Summer Time” (strawberry, watermelon, and mango). There’s also Dole Pineapple flavor, if you’ve ever wondered what a Dole Whip would taste like as Italian ice.

The culinary transformation of Downtown Disney isn’t complete. Several projects are still on the way. These include:

Bopo Go is a bubble tea shop moving into Jamba’s previous spot.

Porto’s Bakery & Café, the Cuban pastry chain, is coming to a huge new building being constructed near the Disneyland Esplanade.

The former Tortilla Jo’s building was demolished. In its place, Disney is constructing a new building that will house two restaurants: Arthur & Sons Steak and Bourbon, and Pearl’s Roadside BBQ.
