Disney Cruise Line Expanding San Diego Port Sailings
Disney Cruise Line and the Port of San Diego announced a new agreement through at least 2031, which will nearly double the number of Disney cruises sailing out of San Diego. This is significant news for Disneyland fans, as it greatly expands the opportunity to pair a Disney Cruise Line sailing with a Disneyland visit, a travel combination of theme park and cruise that has long been more common on the East Coast at Walt Disney World and the Florida ports.
Sailings out of San Diego include voyages to Catalina Island, Baja, and the Mexican Riviera, and this agreement will bring a broader range of seasonal itineraries and more frequent departures. This is great news for Californians as this move expands the options of cruises at their home port, especially since the announcement hinted at more seasonal itineraries. Perhaps this means guests could have the option of more holiday cruises to see what it’s like to celebrate Christmas at sea.

Two new Disney Cruise Line ships will be sailing out of San Diego for the 2026-2027 season as access for West Coast sailings is expanded. The Disney Magic arrives in October with options of three- to seven-night voyages through November, followed by a 14-night Panama Canal transit to Galveston. The Disney Wonder will call San Diego its homeport from October 2026 through April 2027, sailing three- to seven-night itineraries to destinations including Catalina Island, Cabo San Lucas, Ensenada, and Puerto Vallarta.
Disney Cruise Line’s Increasing Popularity
Disney Cruise Line is in a period of unprecedented global growth. According to Disney Cruise Line, the Disney Cruise Line fleet is more than 80% sold for the fiscal year 2026. This agreement with San Diego represents another facet of this latest wave of growth and helps ensure San Diego’s access to the popular cruise line.
According to Jose Fernandez, Vice President of Port Strategy, Development & Operations at Disney Cruise Line, “San Diego has been an important part of our West Coast operations for more than a decade, and a place our guests love sailing from.” He added that the agreement reflects the company’s continued focus on long-term growth while strengthening its presence in the region and supporting the local economy.
This agreement gives Disney non-exclusive priority access at the Port terminal, which helps make passenger arrivals smoother and improves the overall guest experience. It also allows the Port to better plan and make the most efficient use of its cruise ship terminals. The announcement from Disney notes that this Port is seeing an increase in cruise activity, so this deal allows Disney to secure its space, making the experience easier for Disney cruise guests.

According to Disney, more than 1 million Disney passengers are anticipated through the Port during the course of the agreement, which will be the first time in more than 20 years that a cruise line has offered a minimum annual guarantee at the Port of San Diego. This will bring economic benefits for the region with support for local businesses while creating jobs in cruise operations, tourism, and port-related activities. Disney Cruise Line has been sailing out of the Port since 2012 and is committed to making meaningful and positive impacts in the region through collaborations with local nonprofits that focus on youth empowerment and environmental conservation.
