Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind Refurbishment End Date
Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind closed for refurbishment January 5–22, 2026. After the ride reopened, Disneyland added a follow-up two-day closure for February 27 and 28, with plans for the ride to begin operating again on March 1. However, it didn’t reopen and has remained closed since.

Throughout March, the ride’s refurbishment was curiously extended daily on Disneyland’s calendar, with the attraction seemingly ready to reopen any day. Eventually, Disney stopped these daily updates and simply said the attraction was closed for refurbishment with no announced reopening date.
Disney has now updated the website to list that Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind will reopen on May 17, 2026, breaking the streak of the extension every couple of days. UPDATE – the ride closure end date has been extended again and no reopening date is listed.
Disney told us the refurbishment was initially due to standard maintenance, and that the ride’s continually extended refurbishment schedule was a result of its maintenance teams finding new opportunities to improve the attraction’s reliability.

This aligns with the big-picture strategy Disney leadership shared with Mickey Visit during a business meeting earlier this year. At that meeting, Disneyland Resort leaders explained how maintenance teams are changing their approach to ride refurbishments to better anticipate needs and increase the number of guests an attraction can handle per day. Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind, inspired by the colorful world of Pixar’s Inside Out, is an outdoor ride in which guests gently fly in a circle while sitting in ride vehicles resembling hot-air balloon carriages. This attraction is located in the Pixar Pier section of Disney California Adventure.
Ride Closures Throughout Disneyland Resort
Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind is one of several refurbishments currently happening throughout Disneyland Resort’s two theme parks.
Jungle Cruise, Disneyland Monorail, Roger Rabbit Car Toon Spin, and Toy Story Midway Mania are all currently closed with no reopening dates announced, but there are a few hints at when to expect their refurbishments to end. Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters and Pirates of the Caribbean will also soon join the refurbishment list.
