New Pixar Pier Lamplight Lounge to Replace Cove Bar and Ariel’s Grotto
The Lamplight Lounge, a new lounge and pub, will replace the Cove Bar and Ariel's Grotto Character Dining restaurant when Paradise Pier reopens at Pixar Pier on June 23rd.
In the announcement, Disney shared that the new lounge will serve “California casual gastro-pub cuisine that is playfully presented along with unique signature cocktails.” They also promised that the extremely popular Lobster Nachos will return to the restaurant!

This newly themed restaurant will sit at the entrance to the new Pixar Pier area. Inside you will find a fun new gathering place for the entire family themed to a renovated waterfront warehouse that has become a hangout for Pixar artists and insiders. The exposed brick walls will serve as the backdrop for hidden Pixar touches including concept artwork, napkin sketches, knick-knack collectibles, and Pixar toys. All in all, “the end result is an open, airy and bright place that is organic yet sophisticated.”
This new Pixar Pier space is perfectly situated to provide for upfront views of World of Color from outside on the deck and even inside the restaurant along the large windows. The design of the space is an interesting choice, but if executed well will match the feeling of the Pixar Headquarters in Emeryville which has the same open-air and organic vibe alongside the exposed brick.
I am excited about this change and Disney's choice to expand the extremely popular Cove Bar options. That location has had multi hour waits during busy weekends and now there will be even more seating options throughout. Now we just have to wait for the Cove Bar line to be added to the Disneyland MaxPass app!
The Cove Bar will open one last time before fully closing to become the Gaslight Lounge permanently. The Cove Bar will reopen on March 16 before closing again permanently at the end of May. No word has been given on any addition of a new Disneyland character dining location to replace the Ariel's Grotto princess offering.
