New Disney California Adventure Ride Closure Added to Refurbishment List

We are constantly watching for new Disneyland ride closures to ensure that you are not surprised when you arrive for your trip. Disneyland closes rides for maintenance throughout the year to make sure they are running properly. There have been recent big closures for popular rides and Disneyland classics.

Disneyland just added a new attraction closure in Disney California Adventure about a month into the Disneyland Halloween season. This new closure is for what we have often called the most terrifying roller coaster at Disneyland. There are already three other overlapping closures happening during this period, as we detail below. There is now a reopening date for this closure added here.

New Disney California Adventure Closure Added

Disney just added a new theme park attraction closure in Disney California Adventure. Goofy's Sky School is now slated to be closed starting on September 28, 2025. No reopening date has been posted to the calendar yet.

We often call this ride the most terrifying roller coaster at Disneyland due to the jerky turns at the beginning of the attraction, where it looks like you're going to be thrown off and the feeling that the entire ride could creak and collapse under you. It is just so rickety. This is a Disney-themed version of the Wild Mouse coasters that you would typically see at a regional amusement park. This attraction is one of the remnants of the original Disney's California Adventure Parade Pier area. Most of the rides from this era of the theme park have been redone in some way.

Goofy's Sky School was originally Mulholland Madness and was themed to driving in the twisty hills of Los Angeles on Mulholland Drive. This attraction opened in 2001 with Disney's California Adventure. The ride was swapped over to Goofy's Sky School in 2011 during the period of the park's transformation a year before Cars Land opened.

During this period, there are three other rides closed at the Disneyland Resort in Disneyland Park. Currently, the calendar lists Casey Jr. Circus Train, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Storybook Land Canal Boats as also closed during the initial days of this roller coaster's closure. We don't know the end dates for any of these closures yet.

This new closure comes at a time after the top Disney California Adventure attraction will have reopened after a month-long closure. You can see the exact dates that we have for all of these closures in our Mickey Visit Disneyland refurbishments guide.

These closures are taking place during a period that is typically quieter, though last year was an exception. This year there is no ticket special that stretches into September, so we anticipate that this will be one of the last slow periods of the year at Disneyland. In our Mickey Visit Disneyland crowd calendar, we predict that there will be an initial rush of crowds due to the kickoff of the Halloween celebration that will then settle down into September. Once it turns to October, the crowds should build up once again.
