Lightning Lane Multi Pass Debuts at Disney World With Limited Day of Availability

Lightning Lane Multi Pass replaced the Genie+ system at Walt Disney World today which allows guests to prebook ride reservations in advance of their trip. The Lightning Lane Multi pass system works similar to the old FastPass+ system which also allowed prebooking.

We have been watching the launch of this new service today and noticed some interesting changes on the Walt Disney World app, surprisingly limited day of availability plus all the details of the pricing for Lightning Lane Multi Pass.

Let's get into all the reports from the first day of the service which has a notable twist that may lead some guests to question the efficiency of the service.

Limited Lightning Lane Availability at Walt Disney World

Slinky Dog Dash

Since it has only been one day that we've seen Lightning Lane Multi Pass at Walt Disney World, it is hard to judge on the availability of Lightning Lanes.

However, I did notice that in comparison to the previous day, most Lightning Lanes were running out hours before their average time today.

For example, according to Thrill Data, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was out of Lightning Lane times by 10AM when it's normal average is around 5-7PM. It was like this across the board even with rides like Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, which normally has availability up until park closing, yet today there were no remaining Lightning Lanes as of 12PM.

But before we panic about the success of the service, this is just the first day and there is likely an increase of vloggers, bloggers, influencers, etc. using the service purely to report on the changes. Some guests in the park were reporting they had success refreshing the app to get more times so it is also possible Disney may release more times throughout the day as they gauge demand. This is something that websites that track data will have a hard time capturing in real time.

If anything, this proves that it is absolutely essential to prebook your ride reservations and not entirely rely on day of use of Lightning Lane Multi Pass. You can prebook up to three Lightning Lane reservations per day and once you redeem at least one, you can begin booking more while in the theme park. You can at least have the peace of mind knowing you have at least three rides reserved for each park day.

Easy to Book Process on the My Experience App

Walt Disney World lightning lane app

You can easily purchase and book the Lightning Lane Multi Pass in the Walt Disney World app from the main screen. The app shows all the parks and their individual prices and you can also add any Lightning Lane Single Passes to your cart before you check out as well.

Combine Purchases for Multiple Disney World Parks

Disney World app

You can even book your Lightning Lane Multi Pass for one theme park while also selecting your Lightning Lane Single Pass for another theme park all in one transaction. The process on the app is very seamless which is a relief since these pay to skip the line services are often met with confusion from first time guests.

Lightning Lane Multi Pass Prices Revealed

Big Thunder Mountain at Magic Kingdom

Many guests have been anxious about what the pricing would be for the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass system. It's not uncommon for prices to increase whenever we have any name switch or other changes to existing Disney services. Thankfully, the prices today are an average reflection of what Genie+ has been priced at and I did not notice any increase.

Below is today, July 24th, pricing for Lightning Lane Multi Pass:

  • Magic Kingdom- $29
  • EPCOT- $21
  • Hollywood Studios- $26
  • Animal Kingdom- $18

And for Lightning Lane Single Pass, the prices were consistent with the averages as well:

  • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train- $12
  • TRON Lightcycle / RUN- $20
  • Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind- $17
  • Rise of the Resistance- $25
  • Avatar Flight of Passage- $16

All of these prices align with the averages for this time of year which I talk about in our Lightning Lane Single Pass guide (previously called Individual Lightning Lane) so no visible price increases for these Lightning Lanes either.

Lightning Lane Multi Pass Park Hopping

Hollywood Studios

For guests that plan on park hopping at Walt Disney World, you can purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass for any of the parks and use it in another park you hop to later in the day.

This means if you want to pay the cheaper price for Lightning Lane Multi Pass for Animal Kingdom and then hop to Magic Kingdom to use it, then you absolutely can and there is no price difference you must pay.

But in that example scenario, before you can use Lightning Lane Multi Pass in Magic Kingdom, you need to scan into Animal Kingdom and redeem at least one Lightning Lane reservation in that park first. By the time you make your way to Magic Kingdom, you might be faced with limited availability so you should plan on purchasing it for the park you plan on spending your morning in.
