The Howard Johnson Anaheim is a popular choice for families, at about an 8-minute walk to Disneyland. One of its biggest draws is its outdoor water play area called Castaway Cove that features slides, a pirate ship with water cannons, a toddler wading pool, a 200-gallon drench bucket, and a hot tub. The hotel also has a large separate Garden Pool.
This is overall one of our favorite hotels near Disneyland due to its amenities and proximity to the resort, with moderate pricing. The rooms are clean with comfortable bedding, and some look out directly towards the park with a view of the fireworks. See our review of the Howard Johnson near Disneyland.
The newly filed permit for the Howard Johnson calls for a remodel of approximately 231 square feet to update an existing breakroom and storage area in the lobby building, and the conversion of a 1,027-square-foot game room into an accounting office. Additionally, they are planning an extensive remodel of existing guestrooms, including new fixtures and redesigned bathroom layouts, and the construction of approximately 1,500 square feet for a new stair and storage area.
They also plan to make other improvements to the property, including the construction of 1,743 square feet for three covered elevated walkways, as well as the addition of a 286-square-foot elevator tower to connect Buildings #3 through #6.
The hotel shared with us that this renovation focuses on the four two-story buildings at the center of the property, adding elevator access, significantly upgrading bathrooms, and introducing 10 new suites. These enhancements elevate comfort and accessibility while preserving the mid-century modern character that defines the hotel.
The renovation is expected to start work in late spring.
