Sometimes Imagineers update attractions with new special effects during these temporary closures, but more often than not, refurbishments are focused on normal upkeep of the ride to ensure it meets Disney’s safety and show-quality standards. Disneyland Ride Closures Added for September 2026
Two attractions at Disneyland Park will close for refurbishment soon. These closures both come in the first weeks of the Disneyland Halloween season.

The Mark Twain Riverboat will be closed starting on September 8, 2026. This slow-moving paddlewheeler takes guests around the Rivers of America, circling Tom Sawyer Island for a relaxing, 15-minute journey.
The final day to ride the Mark Twain Riverboat before its refurbishment is September 7. Disney has not announced a reopening date or what may be changing during the downtime. We assume the refurbishment is related to routine maintenance and nothing more.
The Sailing Ship Columbia, a different vessel that likewise travels the Rivers of America, does not have any refurbishments planned and will remain open during the Mark Twain Riverboat’s closure.
The refurbishment of the Mark Twain Riverboat could mean Disney may implement a modified finale for the Fantasmic! nighttime show, as that production usually concludes with several dozen Disney characters waving to guests from aboard the Mark Twain. “Backup” versions of the finale in the past have instead seen the characters simply waving from the main Fantasmic! stage on Tom Sawyer Island instead.

Indiana Jones Adventure will be closed for refurbishment starting on September 8, 2026. The indoor thrill ride aboard bumpy Jeeps, escaping the wrath of Mara, is a favorite among many Disneyland guests. Its temporary closure will likely lead to increased wait times for other thrill rides around the park without Indy around to help equalize rider capacity.
Disneyland has not announced a reopening date for Indiana Jones Adventure, nor has the park revealed what the refurbishment will focus on. The final day to ride Indiana Jones Adventure before the closure is September 7.
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida, the DINOSAUR attraction, which utilized the same ride system as Disneyland’s Indiana Jones Adventure, permanently closed earlier this year so that Disney can transform it into a new Indy experience of its own.
Other recent Disneyland Resort refurbishments have greatly fluctuated in length. Matterhorn Bobsleds’ July 2026 closure lasted just four days, while the Silly Symphony Swings refurbishment just entered its fourth month.
