Disneyland Resort‘s theme park rides regularly close for routine refurbishments. Earlier this year, Disneyland maintenance crews shared with us their new plan for ride closures. We keep track of all Disneyland refurbishments, and a new closure was just added to the calendar.
A classic Disneyland roller coaster ride will close for refurbishment this summer, indicating an annual closure can still be expected of this old attraction. Disneyland has not shared a reopening date for the Matterhorn, nor have details been revealed about the extent of the refurbishment work. This is standard procedure for Disneyland ride refurbishments.

The Matterhorn’s last refurbishment was relatively recent, as the ride was closed from May through July of 2025. Before that, the ride closed for a few days in 2024, for several weeks in 2023, and for multiple months in 2022.
It seems that this older roller coaster may require annual maintenance, and that an extended refurbishment can now be expected of this attraction every year. Based on the past few years’ patterns, Disney tends to close the Matterhorn during late spring, summer, or early fall months.
Matterhorn Bobsleds has been a Disneyland classic since it first opened in 1959 as the world’s first roller coaster with a track made of steel pipes instead of flat rails, taking riders on a journey around and inside a Swiss mountain. As one of the oldest rides in the park, and definitely the park’s oldest thrill ride, it makes sense that the Matterhorn may require more frequent refurbishment than other attractions.
More Disneyland Refurbishments

Despite the busy summer season underway, several attractions are on Disneyland’s refurbishment calendar. We keep track of all the refurbishments here.
Pirates of the Caribbean and Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters are currently closed at Disneyland Park, while Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind and Silly Symphony Swings are closed at Disney California Adventure.
Upcoming ride closures include King Arthur Carrousel at Disneyland Park.
