New Disneyland Ride Access Option Debuts For Ride Getting Major Update Soon

Parties of two now have access to a new line to access a popular Disneyland ride. This is the third ride at the Disneyland Resort that offers this shorter line. Even better, these guests don’t have to do any extra planning to take advantage of it.

This procedure helps the park’s operations teams more effectively load all the seats in the ride vehicle and leads to a lower wait time for guests. It’s seemingly a win-win, but it does come with some caveats, as we’ll explore below. At Mickey Visit, we cover the latest Disney news, like the Super Bowl winning team “going to Disneyland” and the launch of California Adventure’s Lunar New Year celebration.

Double Rider Line for Millennium Falcon at Disneyland

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run at Disneyland Park recently introduced a Double Rider Line for parties of two guests. Riders can enter the Double Rider Line to bypass the regular Standby Line for this popular Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attraction.

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is still among the Disneyland rides with a Single Rider Line. The Double Rider Line is an addition, not a replacement.

These changes come ahead of a huge makeover for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Starting May 22, 2026, the ride’s story will involve a new mission featuring the Mandalorian and Grogu. Seeing as the current storyline takes place in the “sequel trilogy” and stars a character named Hondo Ohnaka, the change to Mando helps expand the timeline of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at large. Along with the new characters come with some new responsibilities for riders, as we’ll see in a moment.

This is the third ride at Disneyland Resort to offer a skip-the-line option like this. Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! in Disney California Adventure offers a buddy pass for groups of 1-3 people to skip the line. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh offers a Roo pass that accomplishes the same thing. Toy Story Midway Mania has at times offered a two person pass, but we haven’t heard of it being available for a long time.

How to Join the Double Rider Line at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run

On Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, each ride vehicles seats six people. Toward the end of the queue, a Disneyland cast member sorts guests into groups of six from the standby line, the Lightning Lane, single-rider line, and now the double-rider line. By having groups of two riders already sorted in the double-rider line, that cast member can more easily and efficiently load guests onto the ride. The groups of two fill in remaining spaces to join a group of four guests pulled from the other lines.

Guests don’t need a reservation to enter the double-rider line at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Furthermore, Disney doesn’t charge any money for guests to use the double-rider line. You simply approach the ride at any time you’d like, look for the double-rider line signage, and enter the queue. This differs from Disneyland’s Lightning Lane system, which provides guests with a shorter wait time for popular attractions, but charges a fee and requires advanced reservations.

This news was first reported by LaughingPlace.

Parties larger than two people can utilize the double-rider line, but they will be split into groups of two. For example, a group of four would be split into two groups of two people before the ride begins. Disney applies this same rule to single-rider lines: parties of any size can use the line, but when it comes time to board, the cast member splits up the group accordingly.

Weighing the Pros and Cons of the Double Rider Line

On one hand, using the Double Rider Line at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run may lead to a shorter wait time. On the other hand, it could significantly influence your ride experience for the worse.

In Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, each of the six riders has an assigned role onboard the ship: pilot, gunner, or engineer. The pilots steer the ship (and the right-side pilot even launches it into light speed). The gunners maneuver weapons and fire ammo. Lastly, the engineers … don’t have much to do besides press a single button — until May 22, 2026, at least. When the Mandalorian and Grogu join Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, the engineers will have a new, very important job: looking after Grogu! How exactly this will change will be implemented into the ride remains to be seen, but it’s a fun upgrade for the position many riders feel disappointed to be assigned.

Until then, engineers remain with a somewhat passive role in the ride experience compared to the other two roles. This is an important consideration for guests in the Double Rider Line (and Single Rider Line, for that matter). Since the grouper cast member almost always uses guests from the Double Rider Line to complete a group, rather than start a new group, those Double Rider Line guests are likely to be assigned the engineer role. Therefore, if you’d rather be the pilot or gunner, using the Double Rider Line might not be the best idea.

After May 22, though, guests in the Double Rider Line will have a higher likelihood of spending quality time with Grogu. This may make the Double Rider Line a more desirable option.
