New Closure Revealed at Disneyland

Disneyland Sailing ship Columbia on Rivers of America

A new closure is now visible on the Disneyland calendar for the Sailing Ship Columbia. This full-scale, fully rigged replica of the 18th-century Columbia takes guests on a 15-minute loop around Tom Sawyer Island. The closure begins on September 22, which is currently as far out as the Disneyland calendar goes.

The Sailing Ship Columbia is used for the Peter Pan scene in Fantasmic, so we were initially wondering if the closure would impact performances of that show. However, Disneyland has shared with us that this refurbishment is only expected to last a few days, and it is not expected to impact the performance. Fantasmic switches back to showings weekends only during the slower seasons at Disneyland earlier in September.

A few other Disneyland closures were recently added to the refurbishment calendar in September, including Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, and Dumbo the Flying Elephant. These are expected to overlap with a few other closures scheduled at Disneyland Park during this time, like Casey Jr. Circus Train and Storybook Land Canal Boats.
