New Disneyland Free Food Award Introduced After “Pickle of the Day” Popularity

There are some really fun hidden things to do at Disneyland beyond your typical park day, but arguably one of the most interesting ones was the “First Pickle” prize, a special celebratory button that was awarded to the first visitor of the day to buy this snack.

Since we originally wrote about this “First Pickle of the Day” prize, this was discontinued, reportedly due to visitors getting too competitive over obtaining it. However, the fun of a special prize is still preserved as you can actually get a free prize for one of our favorite classic Disneyland foods at the park.

This might be even better than the original “First Pickle” prize! Keep reading for details on the free food prize you can get at Disneyland…

At Little Red Wagon, one lucky visitor will get the Corn Dog of the Day button, receiving the corn dog and chips for free! Unlike the competitive “First Pickle” prize, this one is completely random, so Cast Members get to decide who gets an extra dose of magic that day. We kind of like this better so that there is no competitive element to it!

There is now an actual professional looking button that a guest will receive in addition to their free corn dog and chips. “It was random (and a nice surprise 😊). I was in line in the evening around 6:30” Facebook user Rose Cortez Duarte posted when she shared the photo below. You can see that this is a button that kind of looks like the other Disneyland buttons you can receive like the first visit button and the Disneyland birthday button.

This is not the only food prize that you can get at Disneyland. In a r/Disneyland Reddit thread, user senatorbrown shared a story about randomly receiving a “Pickle of the Day” prize (different from the competitive “First Pickle” prize), where her sister received the pickle for free with this button. It seems like someone at Disney noted the viral social media popularity of these prizes and turned them into something special for guests to be surprised by.

Is this a new thing?

Other users in the thread mentioned they have gotten prizes for being the “first” to buy other foods, like the “first burrito of the day” at Galactic Grill and “first Dole Whip of the day.” It's unclear if there are actual designed buttons for those firsts or if they are just like the original pickle buttons which was a version of the Disneyland “I'm Celebrating” button with Pickle of the Day written in.

Note that none of these special food prizes are officially announced by Disneyland and are always able to shift, but they're such fun little experiences with the potential to add even more magic to your day.
