Disneyland Debuting Fun Marvel Character for Limited-Time Appearances—Could Some More Favorites Be Coming?

Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure is in a bit of a transitional state right now, as construction is underway on the major expansion that will introduce two new rides. The recent loss of the Avengers Assemble! show was a bit of a blow for the atmosphere of Avengers Campus, as it had added some good energy to the land.

One thing that Avengers Campus has really gotten right (and continues to) is the way it handles character interactions. There is no strict timeline, which means that in addition to the mainstay characters you’ll always see, there are often new additions who appear for a limited time to promote the latest Disney+ show or new film. Now, Disney has announced that a character from the new Thunderbolts film will be appearing in Avengers Campus! Keep reading for more details…

New Thunderbolts Character Appearances

Disneyland announced that the Red Guardian (Alexei Shostakov, Natasha and Yelena’s adoptive father) will be appearing at Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure starting May 2, the same day that the Thunderbolts film comes to theaters.

Based on the sneak-peek video Disney shared, this is going to be a very fun character interaction. The portrayal of the character is really spot-on, and we can’t wait to see if and how he interacts with the other characters in the land (especially Captain America). The timing of this is a good thing for the land, as it will undoubtedly help to revitalize it a bit during this transitional state!

The Thunderbolts film will follow an “unconventional team of antiheroes”—comprised of Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and John Walker—as they “embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts.”

We would also not be surprised if there are more Thunderbolts characters incoming as well. Yelena and Bucky would be likely options that would be extremely well-received. In the comment section of the Instagram video Disney shared below, we are already seeing fans clamoring for these two characters. I have a feeling that they will deliver and that the Red Guardian is only the first announcement.
