Disneyland Cracks Down on Bad Guest Behavior Causing Safety Issues on Popular Ride

Disneyland recently had a rather scary incident with a guest exiting the ride vehicle and tumbling down the 50-foot drop of one of its iconic thrill rides. The situation went viral, and fans had plenty to say about it. Though the ride was cleared to open fairly quickly after an inspection, it seems that Disney has been cracking down more on unacceptable guest behavior on this ride.

Now, there is a new development in the story as Disney continues to protect guest safety with stricter measures. Keep reading for all of the details. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including Disneyland opening a new quick-service spot revealing mystery construction, and Disneyland announcing a new menu for a sit-down restaurant for passholders.

New Warning Signage on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Disneyland

A couple of months ago, a 13-year-old guest left their ride vehicle on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and fell down the ride’s major 50-foot drop. After the incident, the ride closed, and the guest was evaluated at a local hospital and released. Cal/OSHA inspected the ride and approved its reopening the next day.

Given the attraction’s format as a log flume ride, it does not have safety restraints, though Disney is extremely clear in their instructions that guests must remain seated and keep their hands and feet in the vehicle at all times. While the fall was frightening, it was a direct consequence of the guest not following the safety instructions.

However, since this event, there have still been incidents of problematic guest behavior. On July 4, the ride was reportedly stopped after a Cast Member monitoring the ride saw a child exiting the vehicle.

Most recently, according to a video shared by Instagram user @dvnttrip, Cast Members assisted a family off of their ride vehicles after they were stopped ahead of the final lift hill due to the kids standing up.

Now, Disneyland has added 12 new signs around the ride to warn guests that standing will result in their removal from the park. The sign now emphasizes that this behavior “will” get them removed from the park, a change from the earlier language that said they “may” be removed from the park. Disney has also updated the recorded safety spiels that play at points during the queue and boarding process.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Disneyland has added 12 new signs around the attraction, mostly in the queues, to warn guests that if they stand up during the ride they “will” be removed from the park. This clarifies language from earlier signs which said they “may” be removed from the park.

One top comment on the post from Reddit user 25_hr_photo shared, “We went on Tiana’s recently and I was trying to lift my feet (inside the log like 3 inches, of course) to avoid getting my feet wet. Before the big drop they announced on the intercom to keep my feet on the floor at all times. They are NOT messing around, watching everyone like a hawk.”

Disneyland officials shared with us at Mickey Visit that their teams are looking at actions to help enforce the safety rules on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and updated safety spiels and refreshed signs are meant to help guests understand expectations for the ride. They also mentioned how safety warnings will vary depending on the nature of the ride, and similar signs appear for other major thrill rides.

Disney has been extremely clear about the safety restrictions on this ride, and they are making known that there will be consquences for those who do not adhere to them. Disney takes guest safety very seriously and will make adjustments if needed to improve ride operations. Last year, they introduced a new rule requiring heavy Stanley cups to be put away on a popular roller coaster.

  1. Good I’m glad. I think they should somehow make seatbelts for the ride or they use to do two people per slot. A long time ago when it was still splash 💦 mountain.
