Disney World Changes Lightning Lane to Extend Premium Offering to More Guests

Disney recently introduced Lightning Lane Premier Pass to its parks, which is a premium service allowing guests to easily access Lightning Lanes without needing to book a return window. Since its initial introduction at Walt Disney World, the service has expanded its availability to more guests and is now undergoing another significant change so even more are eligible to access the service.

This premium Lightning Lane service makes park touring convenient with easy access to both Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass attractions in a park once per day. At Walt Disney World, Lightning Lane Premier Pass was originally only available to guests staying at deluxe hotels before its availability was extended to all guests staying at Walt Disney World hotels.

Lightning Lane Premier Pass has been available for a few months now since debuting in late October last year. The pricing of the service varies per park, ranging from $129 (Animal Kingdom's lowest pricing) to $449 (Magic Kingdom's highest pricing) per person.

The Lightning Lane Premier Pass service is currently available to all guests staying at Walt Disney World resorts, but it will soon be available to all Walt Disney World guests. Disney Resort hotel guests and guests at select other hotels on property including the Swan and Dolphin will be able to purchase the service 7 days before their trip, and other Walt Disney World guests will be able to purchase it up to 3 days before their visit. This change will go into effect starting January 21, 2025.

Disney has stated that the service is in an ongoing pilot program since it first launched and has always said that changes could be made to who the service was available to.

Tiana's Bayou Adventure

This premium line-skipping service has not been selling out every day. So far, it has mostly only sold out during peak times of the year when there are likely more guests splurging on their once-in-a-lifetime trips (which is what this service is ideal for).

Lightning Lane Premier Pass is offered in limited quantities, so we can assume that Disney World wants this service to get to the point where it sells out every day and hits the capped amount. The initial intention was to have this be a perk for the most expensive deluxe hotels, but we can see this extension of Lightning Lane Premier Pass' availability as an indication that they just want the service to be sold out.
