Disney World Improving a Top EPCOT Ride With Fan-Requested Big Change

EPCOT is known for some of the most popular attractions in Walt Disney World and is a favorite park with many guests.

One of the top attractions in EPCOT is getting a major change, and it’s one that Disney adults have been hoping for! Let’s get into this new major change to one of the most popular rides in the park.

Frozen Ever After Needs One Big Improvement

Frozen Ever After is one of the most popular rides in EPCOT, with lines for this attraction often averaging an hour, and Lightning Lane availability selling out by afternoon each day. It’s one of the top attractions we recommend prioritizing during a day at EPCOT.

Frozen Ever After opened in 2016 and includes multiple Audio-Animatronic figures, including Anna, Elsa, Sven, Kristoff, Olaf, Marshmallow, and a whole herd of Snowgies. When the attraction first opened, these Audio-Animatronics were considered groundbreaking technology. This was the first attraction to have all-electric Audio-Animatronic figures and the first to combine electric motors and 3D printing.

However, these Audio-Animatronics use projections for their facial features, which is different than other attractions at Walt Disney World. If the projections for these animatronics stall or have technical issues, the entire Audio-Animatronic face can go blank.

While the technology for this ride is so impressive, the faces of these Audio-Animatronics really detract from the experience when you compare it to the other animatronics in the parks. Imagine Pirates of the Caribbean with projection faces like this!

This is why I am so thrilled to report that the Audio-Animatronics of Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff will soon receive new faces that match the advancements in the figures used at World of Frozen in Hong Kong Disneyland. These figures use traditional technology for their facial features, not projections, and the difference is truly amazing. You can see these Audio-Animatronics in the image above from our last trip to Hong Kong Disneyland.

Let’s look at these faces up close. In the left image, you can see the current faces at Frozen Ever After in EPCOT. On the right, you can see the Audio-Animatronic faces at Hong Kong Disneyland’s version of the attraction.

This is going to be a huge improvement to the attraction! This is one of my favorite EPCOT attractions, and I am thrilled to see Disney invest in its technology. No official date has been announced yet for the change, but Disney says “early next year” is when this “true-to-film” look will happen for these characters. We can’t wait.
