New Disney World Attraction Opening Soon Has Unusual Virtual Queue Process

The newest attraction at Walt Disney World invites guests into a fictional version of Disney’s animation offices after the artists have gone home for the day. Multiple offerings are available inside the building, including a short film screening, character greetings, and a free drawing class, the last of which will not utilize a traditional standby queue.

This new Disney World experience will use a virtual queue when it opens. We have details on how this process will differ from Disney’s usual virtual queue system. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including 3 new Disney World discounts for next year and After Hours fireworks removed from events in 2027.

One of the highlights of the new attraction is Olaf Draws!, a class where guests learn how to draw a favorite Disney character. The presentation is hosted by an Audio-Animatronics figure of Olaf from Frozen, along with a prerecorded video of a real animator or director from Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Olaf Draws! will use a virtual queue when it opens on September 14. Disney shared this information with Mickey Visit during a media preview of the new attraction.

Rather than standing in a line, guests will join a waitlist to return to the attraction later in the day when it’s their turn. Guests will need to physically visit Olaf Draws! in person to join the virtual queue.

The exact steps for how Disney will notify virtual queue guests when it’s their turn are not clear at the time of this writing.

Disney sometimes implements virtual queues upon the grand openings of newer attractions to manage demand and crowd flow before eventually switching to a traditional standby line at a later date.

Olaf’s process of joining the virtual queue in person is different from most of Disney’s previous virtual queues, which required guests to join using the My Disney Experience app. In a way, the Olaf system is something of a throwback to the pre-app days of retrieving FastPasses from individual attraction locations all over the parks.

Elsewhere in The Magic of Disney Animation, the Once Upon a Studio short film and the Off the Page! character greetings will operate with traditional standby queues.

Mickey Mouse drawing

There are 9 different versions of the Olaf Draws! class, each teaching guests how to draw a different Disney character:

  • Mickey Mouse with Dan Abraham, director of Once Upon A Studio and Baymax!
  • Minnie Mouse with Hyun Min Lee, animator on Frozen 2 and The Princess and the Frog
  • Donald Duck with Austin Traylor, animator on Once Upon A Studio and Moana 2
  • Ursula with Michael Woodside, animator on Big Hero 6 and Encanto
  • Genie, with Eric Goldberg, animator on Aladdin and Hercules
  • Stitch with Fawn Veerasunthorn, director and head of story of Wish and  Raya and the Last Dragon
  • Olaf, with Trent Correy, director of Once Upon A Studio, and Frozen 3
  • Moana with Samantha Vilfort, story artist on Encanto and Zootopia 2
  • Judy Hopps & Nick Wilde with Byron Howard, director  of Zootopia and  Zootopia 2

Each guest has their own desk and seat to draw at. The artwork makes for a great, free souvenir.

Even without the Olaf Draws! virtual queue, The Magic of Disney Animation already operates differently from most other Disney World attractions. Guests can head directly into the lobby and take their pick from the multiple offerings inside in any order they’d like, or skip the ones they’re not interested in. The most similar comparison might The Land Pavilion at EPCOT, where guests enter the main building and then choose their path among Soarin’, Living with the Land, and/or Awesome Planet.

We got to experience Olaf Draws! ahead of its September 14 opening. Read more of our thoughts on the attraction and tour the other offerings inside The Magic of Disney Animation in our separate coverage.
