Disney Cracking Down on Commercial DVC Renting
Disney Vacation Club (DVC) is Disney’s timeshare program. Members who want to join purchase a real estate interest that comes with an annual number of points that can be used instead of cash to book stays at eligible Disney-owned resorts at Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and other Disney resorts. Members buy into a “home resort,” which gives them priority access to booking there. Typically, the hotels that are considered the member’s home resort are among Disney’s most expensive resorts.

DVC points have cash value, so it has been common practice for owners for years to rent out unused points with certain limits. Non-DVC members can use points to book deluxe Disney resort stays at much lower prices than the usual rate. This hack has grown so much in popularity that Disney has begun to crack down on the practice of commercial renting. Last year, DVC updated its Terms and Conditions to require members to certify that any reservation made with DVC points is for “personal use only” and not for commercial purposes.
This was followed by the distribution of a new policy document in March 2026 to DVC owners that listed “enforceable actions” that may occur if a member violates those rules. These actions would follow a notice from Disney, then could escalate to not being able to bank, borrow, or transfer points. Further consequences could also include restricting the member’s ability to book reservations online, restricting their online check-in capabilities, and canceling reservations.
Now, further restrictions are being put in place on DVC memberships to prevent misuse. There is now new language restricting the annual pass exclusive to DVC members and Florida residents.
Disney Clarifies Sorcerer Annual Pass Eligibility
Now Disney is tightening up the eligibility for the Disney Sorcerer Annual Pass, which is the annual pass exclusively available to DVC members and Florida residents.
The fine print language has now been updated to read, “Passes may only be purchased by eligible Members for themselves and their immediate family living in their household, up to a total of eight (8) per year.” Scroll down to the bottom of the article to see the full language change and the previous language.
This means that DVC members cannot purchase this annual pass for anyone outside their household. The prior language did not include the restriction and simply said the pass could only be purchased by DVC members who are eligible for Membership Extras, which are just additional offers with the DVC program. This also now limits the amount of passes that can be purchased. There was previously no cap.
The Sorcerer Pass is a highly desirable Walt Disney World annual pass because it offers far fewer blockout dates than the cheaper passes, and it’s cheaper than the Incredi-Pass, which is the top-tier option. The Sorcerer Pass costs $1,099 + tax or a monthly payment option for Florida residents of $90 per month after a $99 down payment. This pass only has blockout dates on certain peak holiday periods and allows guests up to five park reservations.
This new rule limits how many of these passes can be bought in a year and restricts access to them outside the DVC member household.

New Language
To purchase the Disney Sorcerer Pass, Disney Vacation Club Members must be eligible for Membership Extras. Passes may only be purchased by eligible Members for themselves and their immediate family living in their household, up to a total of eight (8) per year. Annual pass offers are not part of the ownership interest and are an incidental benefit subject to availability, change or termination.
