Construction Update! NEW Universal Studios Hollywood Roller Coaster Making Big Progress

A highly-anticipated new ride coming to Universal Studios Hollywood is the Fast and Furious roller coaster, and construction on the project is moving along quickly!

We reported earlier this week on the closing date of the Fast and Furious finale of the Studio Tram Tour and how a major construction milestone was just completed for the new roller coaster that will be opening in 2026.

Below, we will share some photos of the ride's construction progress and how its design is creatively worked into the limited space available at the park. Keep reading for the newest updates on this upcoming Universal Studios Hollywood roller coaster!

The construction photos below were shared with us by our travel partner, Get Away Today. Get Away Today closely partners with Universal Studios Hollywood to help make your vacation as affordable as possible with their discount prices (and even lower prices exclusively offered to our Mickey Visit readers). They are constantly in the park staying up-to-date on all of the newest happenings so they can provide the best guidance for your Universal Studios Hollywood trip planning. This is one of the most exciting projects we've seen happen at Universal Studios Hollywood since the opening of Super Nintendo World!

The new Fast and Furious coaster, “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift,” will feature 360-degree rotation of the individual ride vehicles to simulate the “sensation of drifting cars as guests spin in motion at furiously fast speeds.” The attraction is located near the middle of the park, and the entrance will be on the Upper Lot.

You can see in the photo below how the coaster will loop over the escalators connecting the Upper Lot to the Lower Lot.

This was a big construction milestone that the coaster recently reached. When Universal Studios Hollywood announced the closure of “Fast & Furious—Supercharged” in the Studio Tour, they shared a video highlighting the installation of this portion of the coaster's track looping over the escalators. This milestone helps us visualize the full scope of the rollercoaster and how thrilling it will be.

The design of this coaster is a creative use of the space in the park and its motion over the escalator adds some exciting energy for guests watching from the ground!

Below, you can see the view of the track from guests ascending the escalators.

One of the things that Universal Studios Hollywood has been missing for a long time is one large thrill ride and this rollercoaster looks like the perfect solution to that problem. For thrill seekers, there currently aren't too many big options in the park aside from the The Mummy and Jurassic World attractions on the Lower Lot. But neither of those attractions offer thrills like this one and I can imagine this ride is going to be incredibly popular with guests. The views alone as you go soaring over the escalator are going to be amazing!

Construction is moving along quickly which is one thing that Universal is known for. When they set out to build a project, they do so immediately.
