Anaheim Hotels Give Update on Disneyland Shuttle Plans As ART Shuts Down

The popular Disneyland ART hotel shuttle system is getting ready to shut down this week after decades of service. This system has been a vital transportation system for guests staying at off-property hotels near Disneyland, and now, in its absence, local hotels are working towards shuttle systems to bridge the transportation gap.

We previously received news that a new shuttle serving 10 hotels would launch following the ART shutdown, and we now have news of another transportation offering in the wake of the ART shutdown. While they are actively working towards a new transportation solution, it looks like there will be one notable downside and difference from the previous system.

Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including a Disneyland restaurant unexpectedly closed for refurbishment, and Disney changing availability for a popular character dining experience.

In late January, we got the news that the ART shuttle system would be shutting down this spring. While the service has already initiated some aspects of its shutdown, it will officially conclude on March 31, 2026.

The Anaheim Transportation Network serves more than 8 million riders annually, largely through the ART system, which provides transportation between Disneyland, area hotels, and nearby tourist attractions.

According to a report by the OC Register, the City of Anaheim’s Chief Communications Officer Mike Lyster shared that Anaheim officials are having early discussions about a “comprehensive or system-wide operator, some sort of successor to ATN.” However, he mentioned this solution, which is just one possibility, is a ways off, and “certainly not something that’s going to happen by next week.”

A grouping of about a dozen popular Anaheim area hotels, including “some of the biggest,” according to Lyster, is working on assembling an independent shuttle system. Right now, there are no firm details, but they are in the process of choosing a provider.

ART Shuttle Disneyland

As quoted in the OC Register’s report, Wincome Hospitality Asset Manager and CEO Paul Sanford, whose firm manages The Westin Anaheim Resort, shared, “We want to remain a high-quality tourism destination. We have an amazing convention center, an amazing resort destination, an amazing venue at OCVibe, Angel Stadium, and we just work well together. It’s always been a magical group, and we want to keep it that way, so our challenge is to figure out how to do that and to not have a hiccup in the service.”

He mentioned that there will be one key difference from the existing ART shuttle system. For these hotels, “It’s going to be a lot more expensive.” Sanford mentioned that he was told by vendors “that their costs could be as much as 50% to 100% more than ATN.”

With the previous system, hotels paid into ATN based on the number of rooms. Fares for the ART shuttle are relatively affordable, with standard one-way fares costing $4.00 for adults and $1.50 for children (ages 3–9) and seniors. All-Day Passes are available at $6.00, and multi-day pass options are available, like a 3-day pass for $16.00 or a 5-day pass for $25.00.

We do not yet know what types of fares would be offered, and which hotels would be included in this service. The Westin would be one of them, and it’s possible that locations like The Viv, JW Marriott, perhaps the Hilton Anaheim, and other big names would be included in this new offering.

Separately, Disney has confirmed that there will be a shuttle service from the Toy Story Parking lot available after the shutdown. We do not yet have firm details, but we do know that the transportation from the lot to the resort will still be available.

We always recommend staying at a hotel within walking distance of the resort, but with the shutdown of the ART system and the temporary gap in transportation, we recommend this now more than ever. See our top recommended options for hotels within walking distance of Disneyland.
