Disney World Changes MagicBand Discount Policy For Resort Guests and Annual Passholders

MagicBands are not required to visit Walt Disney World, but they have certainly become a big part of the experience, with many guests loving the convenience of linking their purchases to these themed wristbands.

A new change has come to the Disney World MagicBand discount policy for Disney World resort guests and annual passholders.

Disney World Ending MagicBand+ Discount

Disney World magic band

Walt Disney World has removed the discounted pricing on the MagicBand+ wristbands for resort hotel guests and annual passholders. This comes at the same time that Disney World and Disneyland raised prices for tickets, parking, and Lightning Lane, among other things.

Disney World used to offer free MagicBands prior to 2021 for all resort hotel guests and annual passholders. When Disney removed that perk in 2021, they started offering discounted rates on select MagicBand+ designs. The discount would typically be a $10 savings which would make some MagicBand+ designs cost as low as $24.99.

Previously, you could see this discount on their website and purchase a MagicBand+ at a discount prior to your arrival at a Disney World resort hotel or if you were an annual passholder. That webpage no longer shows any applicable discounts for the MagicBand+, so this has likely been discontinued as part of the large range of price adjustments today.

Guests can still purchase MagicBands through their My Disney Experience accounts and have them shipped before arrival, but the pricing now reflects standard retail pricing.

Are MagicBands Necessary?

No, MagicBands are not necessary to visit Walt Disney World or Disneyland for that matter. But if you own a MagicBand+ you will be able to use it at both resorts and on Disney Cruises. So it is a purchase that can be used on multiple vacations. The older version, simply called MagicBand, can only be used at Disney World.

They are convenient so you do not have to dig for your phone to scan at Lightning Lane entrances or to access your hotel room. I love how I can add a payment method to my Disney World resort hotel profile and then everyone in the family can use their MagicBands to purchase things in the theme parks.

I don’t know how many guests are actually using this MagicBand discount today.

Separate from the pre-arrival discount, you can often find a decent discount on MagicBands on the Disney Store website during sales and get a design you really like. The design options with the discounts were a bit more limited compared to the options on the Disney Store website.

Here’s a look at some of the current options on the Disney Store website. You can see all of the currently available MagicBand offerings here. I don’t see any sales on there currently.
