Disney Announced 8 New Rides Opening in the Next Year. All the Details We Know

Walt Disney Imagineers continually face the challenge of stewarding the legacy of Disney theme parks’ classic attractions while creating new experiences that connect with new generations. We see this reflected in the lineup of new rides opening at parks around the world over the next year. The list is an eclectic bunch of attractions starring Disney’s most recent animated stars, new rides featuring classic characters, and decades-old experiences given a new lease on life.

Among them are Disney’s first Encanto ride and a new take on Space Mountain. In this story, we’ll break down what to expect from each of these coming attractions. See also the lineup of new restaurants opening at the parks. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including the new Disneyland President’s favorite food from living at the resort for 5 weeks and discounts on Disney Cruise Line sailings.

Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto

Antonio Madrigal is receiving his gift of talking to animals, and we’re all invited to the Casita to join the celebration. Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto will open at Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Florida.

This family-friendly ride will be a next-generation dark ride, the style of slow-moving, musical attraction common in Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom and Disneyland that takes place within a fairy tale, in this case, Encanto.

Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto is part of a new land called Tropical Americas, taking place deep within a rainforest. Tropical Americas also includes two more rides later on our list. We just got confirmation that this ride is set to open in 2027 in a recent press release.

Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue

The Sugar Rush video game is glitching, and Ralph and Vanellope need our help to blast the haywire code back to normal. Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue will open at Tokyo Disneyland.

This ride repurposes the former ride system of Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters, which closed in 2024. Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue marks Disney’s first ride based on Wreck-It Ralph. The imaginative, candy-coated world of Sugar Rush should make for a colorful atmosphere to ride through!

Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress

There’s a great, big, beautiful tomorrow, and we get to imagine the possibilities of the future throughout the decades with a suburban American family in Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress, a classic ride at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World that the Imagineers are completely overhauling.

Onboard the ride, guests sit in a theater that slowly rotates, like a carousel, into each new scene, with every turn depicting a new decade. Whereas the previous version of the ride took guests through the 1900s, 1920s, 1940s, and 1990s, the new version opening in late spring 2027 will depict 1964, 1985, 1999, and the distant future. Read descriptions of all the new scenes.

The revamp will also begin with a new introduction featuring an Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney.

El Carrusel de los Animalitos

Eeyore carousel ride vehicle

Deep within a rainforest is the village of Pueblo Esperanza, where a local woodcarver has built a merry-go-round with steeds depicting his favorite animals from Disney stories. This is the setup for El Carrusel de los Animalitos, opening at Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World.

The cute ride vehicles include some fun character selections, including Eeyore, Bambi, Heimlich the caterpillar from A Bug’s Life, and Squirt the sea turtle from Finding Nemo. See the full list of carousel animals.

El Carrusel de los Animalitos is part of the new Tropical Americas land, which also includes the aforementioned Encanto ride and one more attraction later on our list.

Space Mountain: Earthrise

Can a roller coaster also be a profound message about humanity? Disney is hoping so with Space Mountain: Earthrise, a new iteration of the classic indoor coaster through the cosmos opening at Tokyo Disneyland.

This is a completely new ride built from scratch, not a mere update of the previous version. In fact, the previous version no longer exists. Disney demolished it altogether.

In Space Mountain: Earthrise, guests will “see our connection to our planet and gain a new perspective for how special it is in all the universe,” said Walt Disney Imagineering Producer Kathleen Davis.

Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent

Construction for new Indiana Jones ride

An archeological exploration of an ancient Mayan temple goes awry when a portal opens to the underworld. So the story goes in Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent, coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World.

The ride will repurpose the former DINOSAUR attraction, which closed in February 2026. Riders will join Indy for a dark, bumpy voyage that culminates in a face-to-face encounter with the snake-like Tsukán, represented as a giant Audio-Animatronics figure.

Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent

Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent is part of Tropical Americas, the new land that also includes Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto and El Carrusel de los Animalitos.

Spider-Man Roller Coaster

Peter Parker’s Spider-Bot assistants give him more than he bargained for, and guests will get to see him in action as Spider-Man attempting to save the day from the rogue robots on a new Spider-Man roller coaster coming to Shanghai Disneyland.

Disney hasn’t confirmed a 2027 opening for the Spider-Man coaster, but seeing as the track is already fully assembled and most of the ride takes place outdoors, it’s hard to imagine it taking longer than a year to complete its remaining work.

Wilderness Explorers Sky Swings

Russell, the young boy from Up, is earning his aviation badge in Wilderness Explorers Sky Swings, a Pixarified take on a traditional chain-swing ride coming to Disney Adventure World at Disneyland Paris.

The new attraction may not be a headlining attraction, but it will help round out the roster of the ever-evolving Disney Adventure World, which was just renamed from Walt Disney Studios Park and is still in the process of reinventing itself. Any theme park needs quaint rides like this to balance out the big-budget, high-thrill attractions.

Beyond Rides: Monstropolis Land, Classic Entertainment Returning, and New Cruise Ship

Beyond the rides listed above, Disney has other styles of experiences in the works for its parks and global vacation destinations in the coming year.

Monstropolis will open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World, bringing the city from Monsters, Inc. to real life. The land will open in waves. Phase 1, in 2027, will include an indoor show and dining experiences. Phase 2, likely in 2028, will feature the land’s marquee attraction, a suspended roller coaster.

Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge will open at Walt Disney World on July 1, 2027. The new hotel property will be themed after nature and will include traditional hotel rooms and private lakehouses.

Disneyland Resort in California will welcome back favorite entertainment next year. This includes the Remember…Dreams Come True fireworks show plus the original version of the World of Color fountain projection show in February 2027 and the Magic Happens daytime parade in the summer.

The new Disney Believe cruise ship will set sail in late 2027. We look forward to learning more about this Wish-class ship during a special reveal on October 7, 2026.
