Disney World Announces New Skyliner Closure Dates for Annual Refurbishment

Walt Disney World regularly closes rides for routine maintenance, including its fleet of transportation options. Buses, monorails, boats, and aerial gondolas transport guests across the resort’s 43 square miles of theme parks and hotels. Earlier this year, Disney World implemented a new rule blocking some guests from using certain buses and boats. Future maintenance work will impact multiple hotel properties.

A popular Disney World transportation method will close for refurbishment in 2028, following a separate closure in 2027. We have dates for both sets of downtime and who this refurbishment will affect. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including a celebrity addition to EPCOT’s free concerts and the full menu for the new dining location coming to Disney’s BoardWalk.

Disney Skyliner Closing for Refurbishment in 2027 and 2028

Gondolas over blue sky

The Disney Skyliner, an aerial gondola transportation system, connects EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios with several nearby resort hotels. We enjoy using it to take an occasional break from the parks.

Since the Skyliner’s debut in 2019, it has typically closed for a few days toward the beginning of almost every year for regular maintenance and upkeep. Guests who prefer the Skyliner know to avoid planning a Disney World trip for late January, when the refurbishment is almost always scheduled.

The Skyliner has stations at EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Riviera Resort, and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, as well as a shared station for Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. Guests staying at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, and Disney’s Beach Club Resort can take a short walk to the EPCOT station, located outside of the park’s back entrance, the International Gateway.

As previously announced, the Disney Skyliner will be closed for refurbishment from January 24 through January 30, 2027. The last day to ride the Skyliner will be January 23, and it will reopen on January 31.

During this time, alternate bus transportation to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be provided to the affected hotels. Guests park hopping between EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios can utilize boat transportation, which is always in service even when the Skyliner isn’t closed.
