Disney’s Star Wars theme park land, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, has been something of an evolving project over time. As guests have provided feedback and as Disney’s technology has improved, the rides, atmosphere, and even merchandise opportunities in the land have changed. Guests now have something else new to experience as they journey to a galaxy far, far away.
Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida made additional changes to a Star Wars ride that was recently updated. We have details on this new layer of interactivity that continues the ride’s story beyond the theme parks. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including Villains Land rides for Disney World and a Tomorrowland overhaul for Disneyland.

Another New Mission for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is a simulator ride in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Riders are assigned different positions as part of the flight crew of the Millennium Falcon, Han Solo’s ship from the Star Wars movies, and set off on a mission where they directly affect what happens in the ride around them.

Guests pilot the ship and fire its blasters, creating the action outside the ship’s “windows” in real time. Earlier this year, an update to the ride added new planet destinations. Favorite characters Din Djarin and Grogu, aka the Mandalorian and “baby Yoda,” are also now a prominent part of the story. The updates represented a partnership between Walt Disney Imagineering and Epic Games, the studio behind the popular Fortnite video game.

That collaboration continues with another change to Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run that expands the ride’s story into a new experience beyond Disneyland and Disney World. The news was announced at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, and launched almost immediately. It’s already live in the parks!
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run | Fortnite is the name of a new cross-medium experience that connects Fortnite players’ real-life ride on the Smugglers Run attraction in Galaxy’s Edge to a new gameplay area within Fortnite.

Smugglers Gambit is a new Fortnite island now available that directly extends the story of the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ride. The island takes place on the planet Ord Ryla. Hondo Ohnaka, the character from the ride, tasks players with teaming up with friends, taking on co-op missions, battling pirates and Imperial remnants, encountering dangerous wildlife, unlocking new gear, and building their reputation across the Outer Rim.
When Fortnite players ride Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run at Disneyland or Disney’s Hollywood Studios, they will now unlock an exclusive Fornsworn Trooper Outfit for their avatar to wear in Fortnite. The success of their mission onboard the ride, and how many crates they retrieve, also rolls over into the Smugglers Gambit gameplay at home.
We explain how to participate below.

Players can begin their journey in the park or in the game first, either way.
Here’s how to access the connectivity elements in the park:
- Head to Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at either Disneyland Park in California or at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World in Florida.
- When you enter the queue, open the Disneyland app (when at Disneyland) or the My Disney Experience app (when at Disney World) to accept Hondo’s mission.
- Ride Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.
- Check your app or your email to receive your reward and link your Epic Games account.
- Guests who aren’t eligible to link their accounts can instead redeem a code in Fortnite to receive their reward.
- Continue the story by playing Smugglers Gambit in Fortnite.

Again, though, you don’t have to visit the park first. You can play Smugglers Gambit in Fortnite and then visit the park later, or even play without ever visiting the park at all.
Smugglers Gambit is free to play in Fortnite, and accessing the reward at the park comes at no extra cost.

Other recent changes to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge include the arrival of characters from the original Star Wars trilogy to the California version of the land, and exclusive new Ewok toys on both coasts.
The Millennium Falcon news is one of many Disney theme park announcements just revealed. Other big updates include Disneyland’s Avatar land delayed and Disney World redoing a classic ride after decades of complaints. Click here to see all the news revealed at D23 with our ongoing coverage!
