Disney Park Revamping Classic Land with New Coaster and Updated Ride

As time passes, Walt Disney Imagineers take stock of longstanding theme park attractions and even entire lands to evaluate opportunities for improvement or, in some cases, whether it’s time to permanently close something. One of Disney’s most impressive global destinations is updating and replacing a handful of old attractions, and Disney just shared new information.

A Disney theme park is revamping a classic land with a new roller coaster and an updated ride. We have new sneak peeks of both projects. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including 7 huge ride reveals for Disneyland and 11 big ride announcements for Disney World. We also got a big update on an EPCOT ride overhaul.

The new coaster isn’t a refurbishment, but rather an entirely new build altogether. It will be housed in a new Space Mountain exterior slightly resembling its predecessor, but introducing a new design with more curves.

The new Space Mountain will open in 2027. Its new name will be Space Mountain: Earthrise. Disney says that on this iteration of Space Mountain, riders will “see our connection to our planet and gain a new perspective for how special it is in all the universe.”

As part of Tokyo’s Tomorrowland revamp, Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters permanently closed in 2024. It will be replaced by Disney’s first Wreck-It Ralph ride. Retaining the ride system from the former Buzz Lightyear attraction, the attraction will be a slow-moving journey through the Sugar Rush video game.

The name of the new Wreck-It Ralph attraction coming to Tokyo Disneyland is Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue. Riders will help Ralph and Vanellope blast rogue sugar bugs back to their original forms while trying to stay one step ahead of King Candy.

The attraction will include several Audio-Animatronics figures of Ralph. Jack McBrayer, the voice of Fix-It Felix in the Wreck-It Ralph film, helped announce the news at D23.
