Disneyland Adds Unexpected Attraction Closure Immediately to Refurbishment Calendar

Disneyland Resort regularly closes attractions for refurbishment at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure. Disney usually provides guests with at least a few weeks’ notice before a closure begins, but the company strayed from this protocol with an immediate closure listing. We track all the parks’ refurbishments here and see the May closures here.

Disneyland just added an attraction closure to its refurbishment calendar, effective right away. We share the dates involved and what remains unaffected by the change. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including a recommendation for an underrated Disneyland ride and changes coming to Disneyland’s weakest Star Wars ride.

Unexpected 11-Day Closure of Disneyland Attraction

Tom Sawyer Island

Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island is closed at Disneyland Park from April 27 through May 7, 2026. Disneyland did not announce the refurbishment before it began. They added the closure over the weekend to the calendar to start a day later this week, but then moved it up to start today this morning.

To be clear, “Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island” is the formal name of the whole island experience. “Pirate’s Lair” isn’t just one part of the island. In other words, the entirety of Tom Sawyer Island will close for refurbishment.

It’s abnormal for a Disneyland refurbishment to arrive without prior notice. With this refurbishment beginning today, as of this writing, and lasting only a few days, we suspect Disney maintenance teams noticed an unexpected issue that needed addressing and couldn’t wait, but could also be resolved quickly. We recently learned about the behind-the-scenes decisions involved in Disneyland attractions maintenance.

Mark Twain Riverboat at Disneyland

The other attractions surrounding the Rivers of America, including the Mark Twain Riverboat, the Sailing Ship Columbia, Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes, and the nighttime Fantasmic! show, remain unaffected by this refurbishment, and will continue operating as usual.

Tom Sawyer Island’s East Coast counterpart, at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, closed permanently in 2025.

Other Closures Throughout Disneyland

Exterior of Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin at Disneyland

It’s a busy week on Disneyland Resort’s calendar for attraction refurbishments beginning while others conclude their maintenance periods.

Jungle Cruise and Toy Story Midway Mania just completed multi-week refurbishments a few days ago.

Disneyland Monorail and Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin will reopen on May 1, having been closed since March 30.

Pirates of the Caribbean and Blue Bayou Restaurant will both close for refurbishment on May 4. The ride’s refurbishment is expected to last about a month, and the restaurant will reopen in late May, but Disney has not announced exact dates for either.

Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, Silly Symphony Swings, and Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind are all currently closed with no reopening dates announced.

We track all the Disneyland refurbishments here.
