Disney has shared a first look at its residential plans for Cotino, a new Storyliving by Disney community coming to Southern California.
Storyliving by Disney are new residential communities designed with the aim of “bringing people together” and inspiring new passions, managed by Cast Members and imbued with Disney magic. The new Cotino community is being created in collaboration with DMB, “a leading developer of large-scale planned communities, and select builders.”
Claire Bilby, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Signature Experiences Emerging Businesses, shares, “We’re thoughtfully and intentionally bringing elements to the community to encourage camaraderie among neighbors while also using our renowned Disney placemaking to weave the essence and beauty of the Coachella Valley into the fabric of the community. Alongside the developer and builders, we’re creating a special place where residents will have a distinctive lifestyle that can only be found in the Cotino community.”

New Cotino Home Designs Revealed
Disney has released a new look at the Cotino home designs with floorplans featuring designs with flex and loft spaces that encourage indoor-outdoor living with entry courtyards and covered terraces.
The initial sales preview includes a limited selection of single-family homes from award-winning builder Shea Homes. There will be several options including an area dedicated just to 55+ adults:
- Cottage Collection: includes three different floor plans with one- and two-story models ranging from approximately 2,260 – 2,820 square feet.
- Grand Collection: four different floorplans with one- and two-story models ranging from approximately 2,780 – 3,730 square feet.
More single-family home sites will be released throughout 2024.
Those seeking to purchase a home in the Cotino area can purchase from four distinct design collections: Cotino Coachella Collection, Cotino Agrarian Collection, Cotino Oasis Collection and Cotino Aspiron Collection. Each design represents the history and landscape of Palm Springs with architectural and aesthetic design by Walt Disney Imagineering.
The first phase of the Cotino community will include a limited release from Shea Homes and eventually expand to include 327 home sites plus parks and walking paths.

First Look at New Cotino Community Layout
The Cotino Community will feature more than 300 homes, with about a third of those dedicated to homeowners ages 55+ and the rest open to residents of all ages. The community will contain several types of homes and lots sizes, with streetscapes featuring “styles reflecting the region’s desert heritage.” The homes will be inspired by the history and beauty of the greater Palm Springs area and the vision of Walt Disney Imagineering.
There will be three different single-family home collections to choose from: the Cottage Selection (on home sites approximately 50 feet wide), the Grand Collection (on home sites approximately 60 and 70 feet wide), and the Estate Collection (on home sites approximately 90, 120 and 135 feet wide).
Within the first phase, there will be a dedicated area for homebuyers ages 55+ called “Longtable Park residences,” with the name inspired by Walt Disney and his experiences visiting Coachella Valley, designed to inspire friendship between neighbors. When Walt would visit, he would engage in desert activities in the morning and then meet his neighbors for breakfast around a “friendly table.”
The initial phase of development will take place in the northwest corner of the community bordering Gerald Ford Drive and Bob Hope Drive in Rancho Mirage, and at varying intervals, a selection of sites will be opened to potential homebuyers during this time.
Pre-sales appointments for details including floorplans, home designs, and pricing are projected to begin later in 2023 before the launch of home sales.
Parks at New Cotino Community
The new Cotino community is described as “promoting connectivity” through each of its spaces where residents can spend time together and make new connections with beautiful views of Cotino Bay and the surrounding mountains. These neighborhood parks will “reflect the region’s natural beauty and Walt’s affection for the area.”
Longtable Park residences will surround its namesake Longtable Park, where there will be a “large, centerpiece table that will be surrounded by palo verde and olive trees,” and the space will also feature barbecue grills, shaded seating areas, and bocce ball courts.
There will also be an area called “Laughing Place Ranch,” an equestrian-themed dog park inspired by Walt's love of horses. This area will feature “rustic, ranchero-style play structures” and separate play areas for large and small pets.
Little Desert Park will be a family-friendly park paying homage to the beauty of the desert and Walt’s love of nature and animals, especially those of the desert.
New Cotino Community Activities
The new Cotino community will feature several activities and unique experiences for residents to explore.
There will be activities centered around the Contino Bay, with an Artisan Club membership allowing residents access to a waterfront clubhouse featuring a fitness center, pool, pickleball court, restaurant, and more, exclusive beach areas, volunteerism opportunities, and Disney signature events, performances, and seasonal celebrations. An Artisan Club membership will also offer access to the “Parr House,” a venue and event space inspired by the Parr family of the Incredibles 2 movie.
The community will also feature a town center with shopping and dining options showcasing the talents of artists, chefs, and retailers, an open-air market featuring artists, and access to a public beach (for a fee).
Homeowners and guests can also explore activities in the city of Rancho Mirage and hiking, tennis, and golf courses in the surrounding area.
Contino Bay Community Beach
Cotino Bay will be the centerpiece of the community, and it will be “enhanced by a promenade with striking views of the oasis and the mountains beyond.” In the concept artwork above, you can see the setup of the beach and the promenade that wraps around the various activity centers with a picturesque view of the water.
Club members will be able to enjoy Cotino Bay from their own private beaches, and with the purchase of admission, guests can also visit a separate beach park with access to Cotino Bay Beach.
