Disney previously described how the new Avatar experience coming to Disney California Adventure would be based on Avatar: The Way of Water and upcoming Avatar films, so we anticipate that this new installment of the franchise could be a significant source of inspiration for the land. This new addition is arguably the most controversial of the new additions coming to Disneyland, with many mourning the loss of the classic ride it's replacing and expressing how they feel the franchise is ill-fitting in the park.
However, the success of the Avatar films in theaters, as well as the immersive Pandora: World of Avatar in Animal Kingdom, is undeniable. Although it will be a challenge to continue this franchise without falling victim to repetitive storylines and tropes, the unique and magical world of Pandora continues to be a source of endless creative potential that keeps audiences captivated.
Along with Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña, the new Avatar: Fire and Ash film stars Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Oona Chaplin, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, David Thewlis, Jemaine Clement, Giovanni Ribisi, Britain Dalton, Jamie Flatters, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Jack Champion, Brendan Cowell, Bailey Bass, Filip Geljo, Duane Evans, Jr., and Kate Winslet.
The film has a screenplay by James Cameron & Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver, and a story by James Cameron & Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver & Josh Friedman & Shane Salerno.
New Fire and Ash Trailer Revealed
The new trailer starts out with a monologue from Varang, leader of the Ash People: “The fire came from the mountain. Burnt our forests. My people cried for help…but Eywa did not come.” In the trailer, we see the Sullies and their allies preparing for and engaging in battle.

A big moment happens when Spider is connected to Eywa through the Neural Network, the aftermath of which allows him to breathe on Pandora without a mask. Jake brings up the troubling implications of this, saying, “What if every human being on Earth could live here without a mask? Then the Na'vi people will be gone.” Interestingly, in this shot, Neytiri is shown with her face painted in the black and red colors of the Ash People.
Varang and Quaritch team up during the trailer, even forming tsaheylu (the sacred bond the Na'vi form through their queue, the tendrils that connect them to other beings). It becomes clear that in the ultimate battle, the humans and the Ash People are allied as the antagonists. The trailer ends with an epic moment where Jake once again flies the Toruk in battle.
