Through this collaboration, they will go through the process of getting DMV approval to join the Special License Plate Program so that the plates will be available to purchase for vehicles registered in California, once 7,500 people join the pre-order interest list. See details below.
It’s definitely a little amusing that they require qualifying the demand, as this offering is undoubtedly going to be extremely popular. We anticipate that the pre-order interest list will fill up immediately.
In the press release, they shared that specialized plates cost $50 for sequential and $103 for personalized (plus a nonrefundable credit card processing fee), with an annual renewal fee of $40 or $83 in addition to standard vehicle registration fees.
You can join this interest list at https://treasurer.ca.gov/chffa/plates which is the first step in getting one of these license plates.

They are planning more celebrations as the program reaches milestones, including the application approval, design reveal, preorder kickoff campaign, and events at participating hospitals.
According to the California State Treasurer’s Office News Release, “the program is being designed to support essential but uncompensated healthcare services and programs, such as certain personnel and clinical education costs as well as patient- and family-centered support services that support children’s care, recovery, and well-being.” Revenue from the sale of the plates will be given to a program fund, distributed to 13 children’s hospitals in California:
- Children’s Hospital Los Angeles
- Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital
- Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford
- MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach
- Rady Children’s Health Orange County
- Rady Children’s Health San Diego
- UC Davis Children’s Hospital
- UC Irvine Health Children’s Hospital
- UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital
- UC San Diego Health Children’s Hospital
- UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland
- UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco
- Valley Children’s Hospital
Disney has a history of supporting children’s hospitals and, as part of a recently fulfilled $100 million commitment “to help
reimagine the patient experience” supported more than 1,700 children’s hospitals and pediatric places of care in 45 countries.

Disney also recently joined Make-A-Wish and MrBeast to grant almost 40 Avengers-inspired wishes at the Disneyland Resort as part of Disney Week of Wishes, their company-wide celebration of wish-granting around the world for children battling critical illnesses and their families. We were there at the event and will share our experience here at Mickey Visit soon.
A couple of years ago, there was a similar Disney World specialty license plate for Florida drivers, with proceeds supporting Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida. You can see the sample license plate below, featuring Cinderella Castle on top of a blue gradient with pixie dust. We anticipate the design of the Disneyland California license plates will be similar.
