As Disneyland Resort prepares for huge expansions and large-scale overhauls of existing areas, something that gets lost in all the buzz around exciting new attractions is the work that goes into the parks’ facilities. With each new big-budget ride comes a need for walkways, restrooms, water fountains, and directional signage. Since this is Disney, these facilities not only need to function on a basic operational level, but they also need to support the story of their surrounding area and match its design aesthetics.
Disney California Adventure is opening new bathrooms and reopening a walkway after a 16-month closure. We have insight from Imagineers on the redesign and photos of this updated park space. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including Disneyland’s 2027 tickets and hotel bookings and Disneyland’s popular Bluey show closing for at least two months.

Updated Walkway at Disney California Adventure

Disney is expanding Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Resort with two new rides. Avengers Infinity Defense will take guests on a journey through the multiverse to battle King Thanos in a ride that blends large screens with physical sets. Stark Flight Lab will fling riders in the air with a robotic arm, simulating the flight patterns of superheroes.
The new rides will open in 2028, sharing a huge new building currently under construction. See more details about Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab.

To prepare for the adjusted flow of guests headed to and from the Avengers Campus expansion area, Disney closed and redesigned the walkway between Avengers Campus and Cars Land.

This pathway begins near Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters in Cars Land, meanders through a transitional space between the Cars and Avengers themes, and leads to the plaza immediately in front of what will one day be the entranceway into Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab. The Disneyland Resort app currently does not display the path, instead showing a dead end on both sides and nonexistent trees in the middle.
During the closure, there has been no option for guests to flow through the backside of these lands and instead guests have to loop out and around. It reduces the overall flow of the entire park.
The connector path between Avengers Campus and Cars Land closed in April 2025. Walt Disney Imagineering shared a sneak peek of their work on the pathway on their YouTube channel in late August 2026, indicating the area may reopen soon. The work in the video appears to be complete in this area.
The most significant change to the area is a newly constructed restroom building. In a unique design approach, the building is themed to match the design of Avengers Campus from one side and Cars Land from the other.
Walt Disney Imagineering had to ask key questions when designing the space. What does a water fountain for humans look like in a world inhabited by sentient automobiles? How does a brand-new restroom meet modern guests’ needs, but appear as if it was built decades ago?

On the Avengers Campus side, the building resembles a bunker for the Strategic Scientific Reserve (SSR) from the era of Howard Stark, Tony’s father. Remember, the narrative of Avengers Campus as a whole is that the whole land is an old Stark Industries and SSR facility converted into the Avengers’ new headquarters.

On the Cars Land side of the new restroom, the same building is themed as a Route 66 mechanic shop, Pop n Patch Tire Repair, that’s been transformed into Take-a-Brake, a rest stop for travelers.

The pathway itself also slowly transitions in design themes between Avengers Campus and Cars Land.

The cracked asphalt is part of the story, not a sign of neglect. Imagineers needed to “age” the pathway to make it seem as if it’s been around for a long time.

Signage clearly designates the new restroom building’s purpose, but also maintains its identity within the world of Cars.

The water fountain and water bottle filling station is “sponsored” by Stanley’s Oasis, a fictional business operated by Stanley, the founder of Radiator Springs.

The new bathroom’s interior design contains some tongue-in-cheek theming about checking for leaks.

Themed ornamentation, like the Dinoco Gasoline sign, hangs alongside real-world safety signage, like the symbol warning guests of potential slippery floors.
The new attractions coming to Avengers Campus will join the existing lineup of Avengers Campus experiences. These include Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission – BREAKOUT!, the drop tower ride; WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, an interactive, screen-based ride; Pym Test Kitchen, the quick service restaurant themed to Ant-Man with “oversized” and “tiny” food; and live atmospheric entertainment starring Spider-Man, Wakanda’s Dora Milaje, and the Guardians of the Galaxy.
