We visited on the first day of the celebration hosted by Disney and had a nice time enjoying the entertainment, food, and low crowds that are typical for this time of year. This is overall one of the best times of year to visit Disneyland.

From Bamboo Blessings, we tried the new Five-Spice Popcorn Chicken with sweet chile-garlic sauce. This was an unexpected favorite of mine! This was very flavorful and paired nicely with the chili sauce. It had a very mild kick.

I would rate this a 9/10! This is a great new item that would probably appeal most to adults looking for a snack and older kids who don’t mind the mild spiciness.

Of course, we had to have the Strawberry Milk Tea Macaron from Bamboo Blessings. This is a strawberry buttercream with a milk tea center.

My guilty confession is that I actually got another one of these later in the day (because this macaron is that good). I wish they offered it year-round! The authentic strawberry flavor and chewiness of this treat are perfect. This is easily an 11/10.

From Red Dragon Spice Traders, we had the returning Spicy Chicken Wings with sesame seaweed crunch. These were a huge hit last year! They have a bit of spice, a ton of smoky flavor, and a nice crunch on top. These are definitely a must-try. We would rate them a 9/10.

At Longevity Noodle Co., we tried the new Japchae Noodles with kalbi short rib. I really enjoyed these. I thought the dish overall had some nice flavor.

The short rib felt a little dry, but overall, the flavors were harmonious. I ended up eating quite a bit of this before I even moved on to the other items on this list, mostly because it was a more substantial portion than some of the other marketplace items. I would rate this an 8/10.

From Wrapped with Love, we tried the popular Quesabirria Eggroll with guajillo pepper consomé. I have not been the biggest fan of this dish in past years, but for some reason, it tasted significantly better to me this year. The exterior was crunchy, and the inside flavor was harmonious. You must eat this warm! I would rate this a 7/10.

Another returning favorite we tried from Wrapped with Love was the Taro Vietnamese Cold Brew, which is Joffrey’s Coffee & Tea Co. Vietnamese-style Coffee, cocoa powder, and condensed milk garnished with taro chocolate sweet cream). New this year, you can get the cold brew in a cocktail form with bourbon.

Interestingly, this tasted different this year as well. I remember thinking this was one of the best things I’d ever had the last time I tried it, but this year it felt like the coffee was much more aggressive/bitter and the drink was less well-balanced. Given the fact that I enjoyed this so much in the past, I would rank this a 6/10, assuming that this may have just been an off day.

A word of advice: Be careful with this item due to its caffeine and high sugar content. Those who are sensitive to this may want to share it or skip it. I’ve had an unfavorable reaction to this drink in the past, unfortunately, as great as it is.

From Schmoozies!, we tried the new Hotteok-Inspired Mickey-shaped Waffles, which are red batter waffles with brown sugar and cinnamon custard, yellow whipped topping, and sprinkles.

The seasonal waffles at Schmoozies have been extremely hit or miss in my opinion. This one did not stand out as a winner to me, and I was a little turned off by all of the food dye. The flavor was fine, but nothing to write home about, especially compared to the previous holiday red velvet waffles at this location. I would rate these a 4/10.

We tried the returning Scallion Pancake Tostada, which is a fried scallion pancake with bulgogi beef, kimchi aïoli, and spicy scallion salad.

This year, it’s been moved intentionally to Award Wieners so it’s fresh and crispy out of the kitchen. This was a great move! These are delicious and flavorful. I would rate these a 9/10.

We tried the new Mango Milk Tea with brown sugar tapioca spheres topped with pineapple cold foam from Lucky Fortune Cookery. I had high hopes and was very disappointed by this one. It was almost sickeningly sweet from all of the sweeteners. I could barely taste the tea and felt like I was drinking fruit-flavored milk. I would rate this a 3/10.

That being said, some may like the very sweet milk tea. I tend to love milk teas that have very mild sweetness, so I may be a bit biased in my evaluation.

Ending on a high note, we tried the Spicy Pork Belly Grilled Cheese from Pym Test Kitchen, which is pork belly marinated in Korean spices with white American cheese, spicy aïoli, pickled onions, sourdough bread, and green onion crust served with potato bites.

This was probably one of the biggest hits from the Lunar New Year celebration this year. This dish isn’t spicy and is packed with lots of flavor. It’s available until March 5. We would rate this an easy 10/10!
