Having a charged mobile phone is crucial to visiting Disneyland in 2026. Many Disney theme park features, such as Lightning Lane and mobile ordering, are tethered to guests' ability to use the Disneyland app.
Improving the guest experience is continually at the forefront of Disney's approach to theme park operations, and with that in mind, Disneyland just changed its options for charging guests' phones. Keep reading to learn the details of how to use this free service. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including menu changes at Disneyland restaurants and Disneyland's most classic ride closing for refurbishment.

FuelRod Options Change at Disneyland
FuelRod kiosks throughout Disney parks allow guests to purchase a FuelRod portable charging device for their mobile phone. The kiosk dispenses the charging device like a vending machine.

The same kiosks also allow guests who already own a FuelRod portable charger to swap theirs for a fully charged FuelRod. Swapping is free and comes in handy with guests as a last-minute charging option when their phone batteries are running low or dead.
In a change to the service, one FuelRod station at Disneyland Resort just started offering the newer MAX10 charger in addition to the traditional FuelRod. This station is at Gone Hollywood at Disney California Adventure. It is likely this could expand to other stations across Disneyland but as of now, it is confirmed at this location.

MAX10 resembles a square as opposed to the typical FuelRod's slender cylinder shape. MAX10 charges devices faster and can charge multiple devices at once with USB-C ports. Additionally, MAX10 charges can be wireless for devices with Apple's MagSafe compatibility. To purchase this charger kit at Disneyland, it costs $80 but you can get it on Amazon for way cheaper at $64. BUY NOW>!
As with the older FuelRod chargers, guests who already own a MAX10 charger and bring it to the park can swap at a kiosk for free, receiving a fully charged MAX10 in exchange for their old one. The price for a starter kit for the older FuelRods is $40.
The MAX10 charger has been available at Walt Disney World‘s FuelRod stations for a while, but it was just added at this Disneyland kiosk.
Reliance on Phones at Disneyland
The integration of mobile phones into the Disneyland experience is an ongoing give-and-take.
Disney has long been known for infusing the latest technology into its theme parks, and that includes ensuring the parks' services are compatible with guests' devices. Adjusting Lightning Lane procedures or testing out new limitations on mobile ordering novelty items, as seen just last weekend with the launch of a new Bluey sipper, are ways Disney can tweak a mobile service in an attempt to better serve the guest.
This can also sometimes equate to guests' phones being part of a story-driven experience, such as DuckTales World Showcase Adventure at EPCOT or any number of games within the Play Disney Parks app.
That's not to mention all the ways guests use their phones beyond interacting with Disney directly, such as scrolling social media or texting while in the parks.
At the same time, Disney is simplifying phone use in theme parks, but Disney doesn't want the entire park experience to be reliant on a phone. Imagineers are currently looking for ways to reduce guests' phone use with new technology.
