Disneyland Resort just removed mobile checkout for merchandise at two of its theme parks’ biggest gift shops. This option provides a way for guests to conveniently bypass the traditional cash register line and complete the purchase of merchandise directly from their phones.
With this change, this leaves only one store on all of Disney property with the option to purchase merchandise with your phone. Keep reading for all of the details about this new change and what it could mean for Disneyland vacations. No More Mobile Checkout at 2 Disneyland Stores
Mobile checkout is no longer available at the Emporium at Disneyland Park and Elias & Co. at Disney California Adventure. World of Disney at Downtown Disney District is now the only store in Disneyland Resort to offer mobile checkout for merchandise.
Guests who use mobile checkout can bypass the traditional cash register line. Using the Disneyland app, guests can scan the barcode of the item they wish to purchase and complete the transaction completely within their phone. Then, at a designated station in the store, a cast member quickly verifies the guest’s purchase.
We don’t know the reason for this change. Both the Emporium and Elias & Co. are multi-room department stores located near the entrance/exit of their respective parks. They sell practically every type of Disney merchandise imaginable, from toys and t-shirts to pins and home décor.

With that in mind, perhaps the demands of managing these highly popular stores were enough of a juggling act without the added component of a high-tech feature for guests. Then again, World of Disney is also a huge gift shop, and it’s keeping mobile checkout for now.

The news of Disneyland reducing the number of mobile checkout locations follows the removal of five Disneyland dining locations from mobile ordering in November 2025. Mobile order for dining involves a somewhat different procedure than mobile checkout for shopping. However, it’s worth noting in considering mobile-driven guest services.
In addition to the aforementioned offerings, Disneyland guests can use the app to make Lightning Lane selections, make a reservation at a table-service restaurant, and even play games that interact with attractions in the parks.
Over the past decade or so, Disney has seemingly demonstrated a desire to integrate guests’ phones into the Disney theme park experience at every step. Despite this, Disneyland still reduced the number of locations offering mobile order and mobile checkout.
The president of Walt Disney Imagineering recently expressed a desire for Disney theme park guests to use their phones less. While this policy change of Disneyland reducing mobile checkout locations is likely unrelated to that comment, it aligns with the sentiment nonetheless.
Theme Park IQ on Instagram reported the mobile checkout reduction.
