New Addition to Fantasyland Ride

Disneyland Storybook Land Canal Boats

Disney has just revealed that Tangled will now be featured in Storybook Land Canal Boats in Fantasyland. The ride has been closed since late July for refurbishment, alongside Casey Jr. Circus Train. Rapunzel's Tower from Tangled will now be featured between the Patchwork Quilt and Toad Hall in the ride. This will be a new scene that is not replacing anything in the ride. You can see the concept art for the new addition below!

On the stone wall beyond the tower, you'll see multiple wanted posters seeking Flynn Rider. A fun detail is that each poster has a different depiction of Flynn’s nose. In the film, Flynn famously looks in horror at his wanted poster and says, “They just can't get my nose right!”

Further down the canal on the edge of the water, there will be a secluded dock with a boat inspired by the one we see in the film, framed by a trail of twinkling lights winding up a trellis on the bridge. Here is a closer look at that in the concept art.

During the daytime, you'll hear an arrangement of “When Will My Life Begin?” coming from Rapunzel’s Tower, and during the evening, you'll hear “I See the Light,” the song that plays during the famous lantern scene in the film.

Disney is adding this new addition in honor of Disneyland's 70th anniversary celebration. Disneyland has also added some new additions to other rides during the celebration, with new characters and a new verse to “it's a small world” and 70th anniversary additions to Toy Story Midway Mania! having debuted earlier this year.

Disneyland does not yet have a reopening date listed for Storybook Land Canal Boats. In their announcement of this new change, they shared that “the attraction reopens this winter.” We wonder if Casey Jr. Circus Train, which closed at the same time, will be reopening sooner than that. You can see all current and upcoming Disneyland ride refurbishments here.

Storybook Land Canal Boats opened with the park in 1955 as a boat ride, and shortly after, added small-scale models of fairytale destinations along the banks, reopening as Storybook Land Canal Boats in June 1956.

The models were created at 1:12 scale, surrounded by landscaping that completed the miniature scenes. The attraction has added several iconic Disney films over the years, including Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Frozen. Now, Tangled joins the mix!

Disney shared some cool up-close photos of the miniature models in the attraction! The doors on the models actually open and close for Cast Members to do maintenance.

If you look closely when visiting during the holidays, you'll see festive decor, “from wreaths the size of a coin to frosted snow.” How fun are these details?
