One Unique Thing
One of the most unique things about Disney’s Pop Century Resort is its retro theming. The hotel rooms are divided into different buildings, which are themed to the classic years of the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. As you make your way through the resort, you’ll see a number of pop culture items that were popular during these times.
Many Guests enjoy this walk down memory lane. However, what many Guests don’t know is that Disney’s Pop Century Resort was initially intended to be much larger, and was going to explore even more decades of the past.
The Pop Century that we know today is referred to as The Classic Years. The portion that never came to be was The Legendary Years. This portion of the resort would have explored the 1900s, 10s, 20s, 30s, and 40s. These buildings were built and were located on the opposite side of Hourglass Lake.
Unfortunately, The Legendary Years portion of the project was abandoned. This happened due to the large travel decrease that occurred after the 9/11 attacks. Eventually the buildings were revamped and used for a portion of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort.
