Disney World’s Most Unique Hotel Rooms Set For Refurbishment

Walt Disney World‘s resort hotels occasionally undergo refurbishment as Disney maintains and modernizes various aspects of the hotel property such as guest rooms, pools, or restaurants.

One of Disney World’s most unique hotels will be refurbished this year. Keep reading to see what might change and how the updates may affect guests. At Mickey Visit, we cover the latest Disney news, like the reveal of the new head of Disney theme parks and a refurbishment happening at Disney World’s oldest hotel.

Refurbishment Coming to Disney World’s Treehouse Hotel Rooms

The Treehouse Villas are special accommodations located within Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa at Walt Disney World. Each treehouse is a stand-alone, elevated, octagonal structure surrounded by woods: a literal treehouse.

Each Treehouse Villa can sleep up to nine guests. While technically part of Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, the Treehouse Villas feel like a separate entity unto themselves.

These villas are perfect for those who like to feel part of nature. Plus, they each come with a deck out front so guests can truly enjoy indoor or outdoor living. The Treehouse Villas are among our top picks for the best Disney World resorts for large families.

Disney will refurbish the Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa in the coming months. Disney shared this news in March 2026 and did not mention an exact start date.

Disney says the work will be finished in mid-September 2026. We expect work to happen on individual treehouses one at a time or on small clumps of treehouses rather than the entire Treehouse Villas complex closing.

The work on the Treehouse Villas will be in addition to refurbishment of several other areas of Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, which we’ll detail below.

While not specifying exactly what will change or the extent of the construction, the current state of the Treehouse Villas and Disney’s work at other onsite hotels may provide some idea of what to expect. Let’s take a look.

What Might Change During the Treehouse Villas’ 2026 Refurbishment

The photos above show what the Treehouse Villas currently look like on the inside. Matching the woodsy feel of the treehouse’s location, the interior design incorporates lots of wood paneling in its furniture and features. While distinctly Disney in its quality and attention to detail, not much in the theming screams “Disney” in your face.

Since the Treehouse Villas are such a unique “hotel” choice, if we could even call them that, it’s difficult to gauge what to expect from this upcoming refurbishment in comparison to some of Disney World’s other recent hotel renovations. Doing so would be something of an apples-to-oranges situation.

In this case, if there is a full renovation there, the closest style update may be looking at the update to The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort in 2024. Like the Treehouse Villas, The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort are full-fledged houses rather than singular hotel rooms. They also sleep a large number of guests and their theme evokes nature and the woods, just like the Treehouse Villas.

Prior to their refurbishment, The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort sported an interior style very similar to the Treehouse Villas photos shown above.

Now take a look at what The Cabins’ bedroom space looks like after the refurbishment:

While still maintaining their theme, some of the major changes included an all-around switch to lighter wood paneling, swapping carpet for hard flooring, and adding more overtly Disney flourishes in the décor, such as Chip and Dale’s illustrations above the headboard. These stylistic changes were in addition to an overall modernization of The Cabins in their technology and appliances.

Granted, The Cabins’ updates were complete replacements, all-new cabins themselves, rather than touch-ups of the existing cabins in place. The new cabins also look very different architecturally on the outside. When Disney first revealed those changes, the company shared concept art and extensive marketing materials. In contrast, Disney’s news about the upcoming Treehouse Villas refurbishment is currently limited to basic information on the Disney Vacation Club website.

These factors, compounded with the relatively short turn-around from March to September 2026, leads us to expect the Treehouse Villas’ updates may be similar to The Cabins’ interior changes, but stop short of major exterior redesigns, and they almost certainly won’t be completely new builds. Again, Disney hasn’t announced anything specifically about what is changing inside or outside the Treehouse Villas.

How This Refurbishment Might Impact Guests

Being so removed from the rest of Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa and from other treehouses, the very concept of the Treehouse Villas means any ongoing refurbishment or construction is unlikely to affect guests directly.

The most obvious impact will be fewer treehouses available for guests to stay in until the refurbishment concludes in mid-September 2026.

All the same, guests may hear or see work happening over the next few months. However, Disney is always mindful to perform construction during daytime hours. We don’t expect guests to be disrupted by construction noises while trying to sleep.

Frankly, the guests who see the most construction might be those traversing the nearby Sassagoula River via boat transportation on their way to or from Disney’s Old Key West Resort, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter, or Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside coming to or from Disney Springs. The boats’ route passes right by some of the Treehouse Villas.

More Refurbishments Ongoing at Saratoga Springs

In addition to the Treehouse Villas, several other areas of Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa will soon experience refurbishments.

The tennis courts and basketball courts onsite will be closed starting March 23, 2026, and will reopen sometime in June 2026.

The various components of the Turf Club at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa will also close for refurbishment soon. We previously reported on these closures here.

  • The Turf Club Lounge will be closed from mid-April to early August 2026.
  • The Turf Club Bar and Grill will operate via a pop-up bar and modified menu from mid-April to early August 2026.
  • The Turf Club patio will be closed from early August to mid-August 2026.
  • The Turf Club Bar and Grill will be completely closed from mid-August to mid-September 2026.

If any of these projects necessitate walkways being closed, Disney will direct guests to alternate routes with clear signage.

Refurbishments Happening at Other Disney World Hotels
