CHANGES to Lightning Lane Multi Pass & Lines at EPCOT Coming Soon

EPCOT is one of the best theme parks at Walt Disney World but runs a bit short when it comes to heavy hitter attractions. This has a big impact on the Lightning Lane strategy as the Lightning Lanes for the most in demand rides tend to run out fast.

Now that Test Track is reopening in just a few short weeks, we're going to see a big positive change to the way guests use Lightning Lane at this theme park that's going to be helpful for everyone.

Test Track Returning to Lightning Lane Lineup

Test Track queue

Test Track is reopening after a year long refurbishment as it underwent a reimagining to place more of an emphasis on a creative story focused on the history of technological advances in mobility. We just rode the new Test Track and you can read more about our thoughts on the changes to the attraction, queue, car vehicles, and more in our review.

Test Track officially reopens on July 22, 2025. Disney has confirmed that it will NOT use a virtual queue and will rejoin the list of available Lightning Lanes at EPCOT which is great news.

This also means that Test Track will rejoin its usual place in the Lightning Lane lineup. No, it will not replacing Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind as a Lightning Lane Single Pass attraction. The popularity of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind still outpaces that of Test Track even with its new reimagining.

New EPCOT Lightning Lane Strategy

EPCOT

Once you are eligible to book your Lightning Lanes at EPCOT, you will be prompted to choose up to 3 multi pass experiences and arrival windows.

EPCOT has split the most popular Lightning Lane rides into one top grouping with the other selections available in a second group. Test Track has always been one of the three rides in the first group which also includes Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. Since Test Track has been closed for its reimagining, Soarin' Around the World took its place in the top three rides in group one. You can choose just one attraction from group one for your advance Lightning Lane reservation.

Once Test Track reopens and rejoins the list of available Lightning Lanes, Soarin' Around the World will likely move back down to group two which also includes these experiences:

  • Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival
  • Journey into Imagination with Figment
  • Living with the Land
  • Mission: SPACE
  • The Seas with Nemo & Friends
  • Spaceship Earth
  • Turtle Talk with Crush

You can choose two of the experiences- or all three- of your selections from this list. For guests arriving July 22 or later, you should be able to select Test Track as one of your picks from the first group of available Lightning Lanes.

Test Track Reopening Brings Positive Changes to EPCOT Strategy

Test Track car redesign

First, Test Track reopening will have a big positive impact on the availability of Lightning Lane rides at EPCOT. Since Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure are two of the most popular Lightning Lane selections in the park, this has put some stress on their availability while Test Track has been closed since Soarin' Around the World wasn't exactly an even replacement for Test Track in terms of popularity.

Once Test Track reopens it will help distribute the Lightning Lane availability more evenly amongst these three top attractions. For fans that would rather prioritize Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, this is great news as it will likely improve your odds at getting a better Lightning Lane time for these options. This will also improve your availability of grabbing one of these Lightning Lanes once you arrive in the park as you begin selecting new experiences. I imagine at first we will see a lot of popularity for Test Track which will ease up some of the demand for Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.

This will also give guests rope dropping EPCOT more options of where to go in the morning. Typically crowds usually go to one of three rides: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. With Test Track reopening, this will help space out those rope drop crowds a bit more evenly.

This might have the smallest impact though as it's still more likely we'll see Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic rewind remain the biggest rope drop draw for that side of the park and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure for those arriving via the World Showcase. But if you'd rather not deal with the crowds at either of those rides, having another option in the morning is always a great thing.

Test Track Single Rider Available at Reopening

Single Rider will also be available but just like with the use of Single Rider at other popular attractions, it may close due to demand at times. We love using Single Rider at Walt Disney World so I highly recommend taking advantage of it to experience the reimagined Test Track.

Single Rider is often under utilized at Walt Disney World since many guests are not even aware it exists. We have good luck getting on rides with minimal waits when we use Single Rider because of this!

There are multiple methods of riding Test Track when it reopens for the shortest wait times whether you use Lightning Lane, rope drop, or single rider. I am glad to see this popular headliner at EPCOT reopen soon!
