When it comes to making feature films based off of beloved attractions, Disney is not one to shy away. Over the years fans have seen rides, such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, and the classic Tower of Terror, come to life on the big screen.
And, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will soon be joining the star-studded ranks.

Details on Big Thunder Mountain Movie
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is a fast rollercoaster-type attraction designed for the whole family (for those over 40” tall anyway) where guests can zoom through a haunted gold mine aboard a speeding train. The popular ride opened at Disneyland Park in 1979, quickly followed by Walt Disney World in 1980.
According to Deadline, Bert & Bertie are in negotiations to direct the film. The female duo is known for directing most of the episodes of the Marvel series Hawkeye on Disney+. They’ve also recently directed episodes of the HBO comedy series Our Flag Means Death.
While the plot is unknown at this time and casting is far down the tracks, it has been reported that LuckyChap Entertainment and Scott Free are producing, with Kieran and Michele Mulroney writing the script. Hang on to yer hats because it is sure to be a wild flick.
To promote one of the Pirates of the Caribbean films, Disney made use of the theme park attraction. In a fun marketing stunt (see video below), Johnny Depp, dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow, appeared in the Disneyland attraction to surprise unwitting park guests. Take a look at this masterful promotion from the launch of the “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” film. I wonder what park stunt we'll see for the promotion of this upcoming Big Thunder Mountain Railroad film and the upcoming Haunted Mansion film.
