Airport Near Disney World Responds

Orlando International Airport

According to a list reported by the Associated Press, 40 airports are being required to cut 10% of their flights across the nation to reduce pressure on air traffic controllers during the ongoing government shutdown and ensure that flying remains safe.

On the list is Orlando International Airport (MCO), the closest airport to Walt Disney World and Port Canaveral, which is one of the busiest cruise terminals in the world. In response to this news, the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) posted this statement on the official MCO Facebook page,

“The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) has not received official notification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regarding a decrease of flight activity in response to the Federal Government Shutdown. Based on various reports, MCO is identified as one of the 40 U.S. airports that will have flight reductions beginning Friday, November 7; however, this has not been confirmed by the FAA. We encourage travelers to contact their airlines directly for questions and flight status. The airport will remain fully staffed to assist in anyway possible.”

According to this statement, MCO has not received an official notification from the FAA, so it’s hard to say how much of an impact this will have on this well-known airport, often used by those traveling to Walt Disney World and Disney Cruise Line guests.

40 Airports May Experience Travel Disruptions

The cuts to 40 major airports across the nation will start to take effect on Friday. Travelers should check with their airlines to see if their flight has been cut. Travelers flying through Los Angeles International (LAX), Ontario (ONT), and Orlando International (MCO) should be prepared in case of any travel disruptions starting Friday. However, Long Beach Airport (LBG) and Orange County’s John Wayne Airport (SNA), both common airports for Disneyland visitors, are not on the affected list.
