Disney Character Breakfast Has Views of Fan-Favorite Attraction and Is Affordable

Meeting iconic characters is a quintessential part of the Disney experience, but waiting in long lines for your turn to hug Mickey Mouse is not very magical. Character dining experiences provide guests a special opportunity to interact with their favorites without the wait, while enjoying a full-service meal.

Although we believe these experiences are worth the splurge, most of them are quite pricey. We recently enjoyed one of the most affordable character meals at Disney World, which features classic characters and offers incredible value. Not only is the food comparable to more expensive character dining, like the Best Friends Breakfast at ‘Ohana, but the rotating dining room also treats guests to views of scenes from a classic attraction.

Garden Grill Highlights

Due to the sheer number of exciting table service restaurants at Epcot, my family always seems to miss out on this one. After talking about it for ages, though, we finally decided to prioritize breakfast here during our recent visit to Disney World, and I’m so glad we did! With its unique ambience, delicious and affordable family-style breakfast, and visits from Chip ‘n’ Dale, Pluto, and the Mouse himself, it’s no wonder Garden Grill is considered a hidden character dining gem.

Located on the upper level inside The Land Pavilion, Garden Grill overlooks one of my family’s favorite Epcot attractions – Living With the Land. In addition to the novel vantage point this setting presents, much of the produce on the menu grows in the Living With the Land greenhouses.

Adding to the illusion of a garden harvest picnic, the glass serving plates look like the iconic paper ones you might see at any outdoor gathering. The hidden Mickey in the place setting is also a nice touch.

The backdrop might just be our favorite feature at Garden Grill. As the dining room rotates ever-so-slowly, a carousel of vignettes from Living With the Land appears beyond its rim. Have no fear, victims of motion sickness, as the movement is almost imperceptible.

We had a decent view of the changing backdrop from our table, but our server invited us to move freely around the dining room for a closer look whenever the impulse struck us.

From lush rain forest, to arid desert, to peaceful prairie, we were thrilled to watch our favorite vistas in panorama while enjoying a casual late breakfast.

Before our reservation time, we anticipated one scene in particular. My kids love seeing the prairie farmhouse on the dark ride portion of the attraction. With its charming scarecrow standing in a field of corn, Audio-Animatronics dog barking from the dreamy front porch, tree swing in the yard, and rooster crowing from the mailbox, it makes frontier life look downright idyllic.

Given our enthusiasm for the farmhouse, we were all eager to see its legendary secret bedroom, which is only visible from the restaurant. Due to the position of the weather vane, we had a tough time capturing a photo of everything, but there’s a mini treasure trove of Americana in there!

We spotted a gas lamp, an antique globe, a quilt on a twin bed, and various other indiscernible props through the bedroom window.

Garden Grill Starters

Breakfast started off with a plate of watermelon slices, cinnamon bread, and my kids’ favorite Disney beverage: POG juice! For those not in the know, the latter is a tropical blend of passion fruit, orange, and guava juices served at select Disney World locations. Our server kept the POG juice flowing, so our mason jars were never empty. My husband and I also enjoyed a bottomless pot of Joffrey’s coffee throughout the meal.

Slightly caramelized and drizzled with vanilla icing on the outside, the cinnamon loaf had a soft and fluffy center that felt and tasted more akin to a pull-apart monkey bread than a cinnamon roll. We appreciated this quality in a starter, as a more ooey-gooey type of cinnamon bread would have been too much to enjoy ahead of the main dish.

The watermelon was refreshingly crisp, juicy, and sweet, the perfect sensory appetizer to the savory courses to come.

Garden Grill Family-Style Breakfast Skillet

Then came the bounty! Instead of the typical breakfast buffet, Garden Grill serves up a family-style meal in a skillet. At $49 per adult and $33 per child, this character breakfast is already a great value. Plus, everything is all-you-care-to-enjoy, which means our 10:30 meal was able to serve as breakfast and lunch.

The eggs were warm and airy, with just the right texture and super flavorful, and the bacon was cooked to crispy satisfaction. I’m not usually one for steak at breakfast time, so it came as a surprise to me that the Backyard Grilled Steak with Farmer’s Ranchero Sauce was one of the best parts of the meal. It was well-seasoned and impossibly succulent, with a zesty salsa-like condiment on top that also spiced up the eggs with a delightful kick.

Still, only one menu item was so good that we asked for seconds… and thirds. The Skillet Potatoes were divine! More of a casserole than hashbrowns or home fries, these were creamy, cheesy, and herbed to perfection. Of course, every salty breakfast should end with something sweet, and there were plenty of Mickey waffles to go around! My family always has room for these classic Disney breakfast staples.

Garden Grill Character Interactions

No character breakfast would be complete without the characters! The interactions here had a really fun, laid-back vibe, with each character making the rounds to our table 2-3 times! Chip ‘n’ Dale are the official hosts of the Harvest Feast at Garden Grill, and they made sure we knew Mickey answers to them at this venue.

In keeping with the theme of living in harmony with the land, Farmer Mickey sports a plaid button-up with denim overalls. My kids especially loved the way he stopped by repeatedly and treated our whole family like old friends, giving us a good-natured ribbing for one thing and another.

Pluto behaved as if he were the family dog, eagerly cozying up to my daughter for head scratches and pats on his nub. We actually have a dog at home, and we were all laughing over how uncannily Pluto was able to capture typical canine mannerisms.

Garden Grill does provide a souvenir autograph card, but all the characters were still happy to sign our kids’ personal autograph books for posterity.

Garden Grill is a Convenient Stop During a Day at Epcot

Another benefit of choosing Garden Grill for your character dining experience is its convenient proximity to several Epcot attractions. After our brunch, we were able to hop right on Soarin’ Across America and then Living With the Land itself. Within the World Nature neighborhood, we also checked off Journey of Water, The Seas with Nemo and Friends, and the adjoining aquarium exhibits on our Epcot itinerary.
