At Disneyland Park, “it’s a small world” closes on January 26 for refurbishment to remove the seasonal overlay, and no reopening date has been listed yet. Haunted Mansion Holiday closes on January 12, and it reopens on January 23 as the traditional Haunted Mansion. They try to stagger these seasonal closures a bit so that these two major rides aren’t down at the same time.

Rise of the Resistance has a rare closure starting in January. It closes on January 20 for refurbishment, and no reopening date has been listed yet. There are also a few closures happening for attractions on the Rivers of America. Sailing Ship Columbia is closed from January 26 through January 29 for refurbishment, and it will reopen on January 30. Mark Twain Riverboat will be closed from January 12 through January 15, and it will reopen on January 16.

At Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Oga’s Cantina and Jat Kaa’s Coolers: J1-KC at Resistance Clearing will close from January 20 through January 24, 2026, reopening on January 25.

Incredicoaster Entrance

Over at Disney California Adventure, there is a good handful of closures happening during this month. This includes three simultaneous closures in Pixar Pier. The Incredicoaster will be closed for refurbishment from January 5, 2026, through February 5, 2026. It will reopen on February 6, 2026.

Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind closes for refurbishment starting on January 5, 2026, and it reopens on January 23, 2026. They also just extended the closure of Lamplight Lounge and Lamplight Lounge – Boardwalk Dining, which shares some overlap with these two rides. This will now be closed from January 12 through January 17, 2026.

Grizzly River Run last drop

Grizzly River Run closes for refurbishment starting on January 5, 2026. There is no reopening date listed on the calendar yet, but it typically reopens in mid-March. There is also another closure in Grizzly Peak starting at the same time for Smokejumpers Grill. This is scheduled for January 5, 2026, through January 9, 2026.

There are not quite as many closures happening at Disney World during this time, but there are a few that you should be aware of if you are visiting soon.

In Magic Kingdom, two rides are continuing their extended closures. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is closed for a major overhaul that will introduce some major upgrades and new additions, including a new show scene, updated ride vehicles, and gameplay enhancements. You can see all of the details about the overhaul here.

The other major closure continuing into January is Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. As part of this extended refurbishment, they are making some changes ot the lift hill scene that you can read about in our separate article here. In their recent set of announcements, Disney World shared that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will reopen “with touches of new magic” in the spring of 2026.

Another big change is coming soon to Frozen Ever After in EPCOT. This ride will be closing on January 26, as Disney updates the Audio-Animatronics figures. As we shared in our original announcement, these will be updated with new faces that have more of a “true-to-film” look, taking inspiration from the advancements of the figures used at World of Frozen in Hong Kong Disneyland. These changes will debut in February 2026.

Lastly, the Disney Skyliner will be down for refurbishment from January 25 through January 31, 2026. This is a relatively short refurbishment, and we already have the Skyliner closure dates for 2027 as well.

If you’re visiting in the next month, you’ll also want to be aware of the Disney World resort closures and impacts happening during this time, including enhancements at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa hotel lobby and convention center, room refurbishments in the Magnolia Bend area of Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — Riverside, and more. You can stay up-to-date with all of those closures here to see how they may impact your trip.

  1. Thanks for this, very interesting to read. I’m coming from NZ on 26 Th April for 3 days so hoping nothing large will be closed. This will be the 2 nd time I have been to Disneyland. Back in 1985 when they opened up Its A Small World, I was 20 then and now 61 and travelling solo.

  2. Too much back and fourth btwn Disneyland and Disneys world makes the articles flow confusing and uninteresting to read
