Cinderella Castle Repainting at Magic Kingdom
Cinderella Castle will be repainted with a look that is more in line with its original color scheme. The castle was most recently painted back in 2020 for the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World, going from a grey and blue to a rose pink and royal blue color scheme. The castle debuted as part of the 50th anniversary with the new paint job and decorations. After the celebration, the decorations were removed but the paint style remained.

We called this one of the most controversial changes Disney has made over the years. Many guests have asked for the original color scheme to return.
Disney announced they are repainting Cinderella Castle with a new color palette. The new look will be “inspired by the classic and original look of the castle.” This updated paint job will include grays, creams, blues, and touches of gold. Based on the description and the concept art, the change will be in line with the former appearance of the castle.

Disney has now shared information about the timeline for these changes. Work will begin to repaint Cinderella Castle in January. The project will start with draining the moat around the castle.
Work involves tall cranes to paint the castle. The cranes will be lowered and out of sight by noon each day in order to still allow guests to get castle photos throughout the work timeline.
The project is expected to be completed in late 2026.
There will also be impacts to the castle shows. Starting on January 28, 2026, there will be adjustments made to the Let The Magic Begin welcome show. Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire and Happily Ever After will continue to be available with minor adjustments.
Disney World previously announced their slate of 2026 new offerings and events. The castle painting was not included in that release so some wondered if it was being delayed.
The news today is surprising in that the painting is beginning much faster than most would have expected. The move to lower the cranes each day to minimize guest impacts is also welcome news.
