Halloween has become one of the most popular times of year at Disneyland. In acknowledgment of this, Disney has expanded the season so that it starts as early as August. While some may raise an eyebrow at Halloween in the summer, this is actually great news for those who want to visit earlier and avoid the peak crowds in October. This is all important to consider if you’re planning a Disneyland trip during this timeframe or attending the Oogie Boogie Bash parties, as tickets go on sale soon.
Using our Mickey Visit Disneyland crowd calendar, which takes into account a variety of factors like 1-day ticket pricing tiers, annual pass blockouts, and historical wait time data, we will take a look at the dates you should visit to avoid the peak Halloween crowds. Keep reading for all of the details! Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including the mistake to avoid at this commonly overlooked Disney California Adventure restaurant that is great for kids, and Disneyland’s announcement of new free dining cards for Magic Key annual passholders.

Best Dates to Visit Disneyland for Halloween
While certain parts of the Halloween season at Disneyland tend to get quite crowded, there are other times when the parks are surprisingly less busy. The 2026 Halloween season runs for just about 10 weeks, so there is plenty of time to enjoy the festivities if you have the flexibility to plan your visit around times with lower crowd levels.

Typically, the first few days of any celebration tend to have higher crowd levels, and this is expected for the launch of the Halloween season in late August.
After that initial weekend, you can expect crowds to die down a bit. Also, keep in mind that you can see very hot weather around this time of year, which can also deter locals from coming out to the parks. Last year, with temperatures in the 90s, even the first day of the Halloween celebration was surprisingly not busy at all. It’s a bit of a tradeoff, as the weather will be a little uncomfortable, but you can get a lot accomplished without the crowds in your way.
In August 2026, we expect the best dates to visit will be August 25-30.
September is the ideal month to visit for the Halloween celebration. With the exception of Labor Day weekend and the end of the $50 per day kids ticket offer, the entire month should be significantly less crowded than other times of the year, so you have a lot of flexibility.
Labor Day falls on Monday, September 7, which also aligns with the last day of the kids ticket offer. This means you can expect pretty major crowds leading up to this last day, as families try to squeeze in their remaining days in the validity period. Historically, there is always a big rush at the end of a special ticket offer, no matter what time of year it is.

The best days to visit in September 2026 are September 1-3, 8-11, 13-18, 21-27, and 29-30. The entire month should have much lower crowds, save for a few dates.

October is usually when crowds start picking up a bit. We have seen exceptions to this in recent years, mostly in early October, but towards the middle of the month, the parks get much busier. The busiest stretch of the month is roughly October 9 through 19th, as this aligns with when some West Coast schools have fall breaks. This includes Columbus Day Weekend, from October 10–12th, which is one of the busiest three-day weekends of the year. Crowds will settle down slightly, but we expect they will dip further for a small stretch at the end of the month before Halloween.
If you’d like to visit in October 2026, we anticipate the dates with the lowest crowds will be October 1-2 and 26-30. However, I would say that in the big picture, September is going to be reliably less crowded, and it’s worthwhile to plan your trip during that month if you are able.
