Restaurants and rides at Disney theme parks routinely close for refurbishment. Most of the time these closures are to accommodate routine maintenance meant to improve the guest experience, while sometimes Disney overhauls major components of the attraction.
Disneyland Resort just added a fan-favorite restaurant and classic ride to its refurbishment calendar. In this story, we'll share what we know and what remains unanswered about this multilayered refurbishment. Mickey Visit brings you the latest Disney news and planning resources, including a new Disneyland ticket offer and a popular Disney World restaurant closing for a “refresh.”

Disneyland Park Restaurant and Ride Closing for Refurbishment in May
Blue Bayou Restaurant is an indoor table-service restaurant at Disneyland Park serving Cajun-Creole food and whose dining room overlooks a quiet scene from Pirates of the Caribbean. Diners enjoy their food in close proximity to boats gliding past filled with guests beginning their voyage on Pirates of the Caribbean.

Disneyland announced Blue Bayou Restaurant will close for refurbishment starting on May 4, 2026. The final day to dine here before the closure is May 3. The restaurant “is tentatively scheduled to reopen in late May,” Disney says.
Pirates of the Caribbean will also close for refurbishment on the same day, May 4, 2026. The final day to ride before the closure is May 3. Disney has not announced a reopening date.
Disney says when Blue Bayou Restaurant reopens in late May, it will “offer a modified dining experience while Pirates of the Caribbean is also under refurbishment, as views will be obstructed and guests may hear some refurbishment noise.”
This implies the refurbishment of Pirates of the Caribbean will last longer than that of Blue Bayou Restaurant, and that the ride will not reopen in late May when the restaurant does.

“Modified” Blue Bayou and Changes on Pirates of the Caribbean
As for what the “modified dining experience” may look like when Blue Bayou Restaurant reopens and Pirates of the Caribbean is still closed, we expect a wall of some sort to block the usual view of the Pirates of the Caribbean's serene bayou ride scene from the dining room.
The ambience of the attraction, the ability to eat inside the ride, is a big selling point of Blue Bayou Restaurant, so its absence will be significant to diners.
As for the ride itself, a recently filed building permit for Pirates of the Caribbean outlines several specific improvements across multiple scenes of the attraction. These include:
- installing three service ladders at scene #7
- rockwork, projector, and speaker updates at scene #11
- replacing cabinets and related panels adjacent to scene #17
- installing a raised grated platform and steps over the conduit
- electrical and mechanical upgrades
Without a reopening date announced yet, it's difficult to predict just how extensive or noticeable these updates will be. However, Pirates of the Caribbean being closed longer than Blue Bayou Restaurant suggests the work may be thorough.
Other Refurbishments Throughout Disneyland Resort
Pirates of the Caribbean and Blue Bayou Restaurant are among several upcoming and ongoing refurbishments happening at Disneyland Resort.
Within Disneyland Park, Jungle Cruise has been closed for refurbishment since February 2026, with no reopening date announced. Also at Disneyland Park, Roger Rabbit Car Toon Spin and the Disneyland Monorail both close for refurbishment on March 30, 2026, and Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters on April 13, with no reopening date announced for any of those attractions yet.
Next door at Disney California Adventure, Toy Story Midway Mania! will close for refurbishment on April 6 and Silly Symphony Swings on April 27. Disney has not announced a reopening date for either attraction. Meanwhile Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind remains closed, with its refurbishment curiously extending daily.
