Universal Studios Hollywood Converts Studio Tour Trams to Electric

Universal Studios Hollywood is celebrating the Studio Tour's 60th anniversary this year with a big celebration at the theme park with brand new scenes on the Studio Tour, photo ops, and special merchandise.

Part of this celebration also includes the news of permanent changes coming to the Studio Tour trams to reduce carbon emissions while also improving guest experience.

Universal Announces Conversion of Studio Tour Trams to Electric

Universal Studios Hollywood has announced that the trams on the Studio Tour, one of the most iconic attractions at the theme park, will all be converted to electric ride vehicles.

This change is already in the works as Universal debuted images of these brand new electric trams. These new trams reduce carbon emissions as the prior trams all had diesel-hydraulic engines.

This news comes on the same day that Disney confirmed to L.A. Times that their iconic Autopia attraction would also move away from gas powered cars in the coming years. Currently, there's no official timeline for an Autopia refurbishment to make this change.

Studio Tour Electric Trams Improve Guest Experience

Another perk of Universal Studios Hollywood converting their fleet of 21 trams to electric vehicles is these new trams will be far quieter than the diesel trams. It will be much easier to hear the tram monitors on the new electric trams.

These monitors are essential to the experience of the 60 minute attraction especially when it changes to the Terror Tram for Halloween Horror Nights. The monitors help set the scene for the experience at Halloween and prepare guests for when they exit the tram.

Studio Tour Celebrates 60th Anniversary

Glamor Tram Universal Hollywood

Universal Studios Hollywood will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Studio Tour this summer with the return of classic attractions from the tour, like the iconic earthquake scene, along with several iconic red and white candy-striped Glamor Trams plus photo ops with a giant Jurassic World dinosaur and more.

The Studio Tour celebration takes place from April 26th 2024 through August 11th, 2024.

Since Universal is bringing in the use of the original red and white candy-striped Glamor Trams, this helps manage the existing fleet of the 21 Studio Trams as they are converted to electric vehicles. It is likely we will see the debut of these electric trams once the celebration ends in August.
