When Will Tron: Ares Come to Disney+ and Be Available For Rental? Here Is What We Expect

Disney's newest installment of the popular Tron franchise just recently debuted in theaters. This third installment follows the original Tron, released in 1982, and Tron: Legacy, released in 2010. Tron: Ares is currently exclusively available in theaters following its recent release on October 10, 2025.

Right now, there is not yet an official release date announced for when the film will be released digitally and come to streaming services. However, based on the timeline of the last few major films released by Disney, we can get an idea of when we can expect to see this happen.

In the new Tron: Ares, a sophisticated Program called Ares is sent into the real world in humankind's first encounter with AI beings. The film has performed poorly at the box office and has not received glowing reviews from critics on Rotten Tomatoes (at a 53% rating), who praise the visuals and music of the film, but claim the substance of the film falls short. However, it has received a much higher rating from audiences (at 86%) on Rotten Tomatoes, with many reviewers mentioning they loved the impressive visuals and Nine Inch Nails soundtrack created for the film.

If you're tracking the performance of the recently released film and wondering if you should wait to watch it at home, here is what you need to know about its anticipated release timeline based on a few recent comparisons.

Disney typically has around a three to four-month window between a film's theatrical release and when it becomes available on Disney+.  Disney and Pixar's Elio hit theaters on June 20 and started streaming on Disney+ on September 17; Lilo & Stitch released on May 23 and started streaming on September 3; and Thunderbolts released on May 2 and started streaming on August 27.

Based on these patterns, we expect to see Tron: Ares come to Disney+ sometime in December or January.

We expect to see Tron: Ares become available for purchase or rental via Premium Video On Demand (PVOD) services like Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home a little bit sooner. For comparison, Freakier Friday hit theaters on August 8 and was released digitally on October 7, while Fantastic Four: First Steps hit theaters on July 25 and was released digitally on September 23.

Based on these recent release patterns, we can expect that Tron: Ares will be released on Premium Video On Demand (PVOD) services around mid-December.
